My Red Y (aka lazybones build) - some tips for the slack modeler

Steve, could that not be the taper in the cans i mentioned? Mike backed it up with the news the master also tapers in. Do the vectral rings match the front dia of the Saturn can?

Lee's dead right, Steve. They HAVE to match, they're cut from the same L'Eggs containers as the front domes - a close near-match anyway.

They are quite off-round until you fit the actual steering vanes in place. Those force them back into round. Try that if you haven't already.

Simon I have some Letraset somewhere, reckon I can prolly find it.

DAAAAAAHHHHH....found some...white only, no rego marks. Sorry. Sure I've got the black stuff somewhere...

Well y'see I corrected the taper. The diameter of my rear is the same now as the diameter as my front. I double-checked this by placing the L'Eggs dome against both ends. Good fit for both. But my vectral rings are definitely 3mm wider. Still, as I say, the effect on the tees is only noticeable from certain angles, and then only mildly so. But maybe Martyn's right and the steering vanes will create a better shape for the ring....

Thanks. Will continue to fiddle. I was wondering about those steering vanes. They really have to meet those marked locating points, eh? Wow, that will take some serious forcing. Yikes. And yes, maybe then there will be a closer match to the cylinders...

Here are some pics then, Lee, of your gorgeous invisible tee strips, lol (they're clear acrylic, folks, thanks to a foul-up at Plastruct, but they'll do the job just fine)... some of the focus is out but the aim in the out-of-focus shots was getting a good look at the general shape with a zoom and atmospheric light (an anglepoise lamp!) - never good conditions for focus without a tripod.

Steve, she looks gorgeous, really great to see the profile shown off. Im still on that fence with this model, still thinking about throwing out these resin cans, using original parts, and converting this to a TIE killer.

Steve, heat them up again if they're that far off-round - heat is your friend.

Also what was that about batteries? You need rechargeables for digital cameras...you're not using ordinary alkalines are you? They don't have the power at all. My digicam can't even use them for emergencies, they die in a total of about three shots at best. Invest in a set of rechargeables, man.

To Martyn you must listen, get some Nimh cells, you can get them in like 2000 mah or something these days, huge capacity!

Lee

Well, for years with this camera I used to get 200 shots out of alkalines... reckon it's a fault in the camera, maybe even some kind of built-in obsolescence.* Those dirty mother-grabbing *&%!!@s! But I'll look into rechargables.

* Regarding this, my uncle (a computer expert) snagged my Dad's old printer which had given up the ghost after about 4 years. He looked up some code, accessed the printer's commands and found it had been ordered to cease functioning after a certain number of prints. He changed this number to a much greater one and away it went again. Still functions today.

Ho! That's appalling. Good on him.

If it did work with alkalines then that's weird, and likely a fault or possibly even what you suggest. Read the documentation though and see if it mentions anything about high-power batteries. Mine does and it really can't operate on low-power ones, as described. Perhaps you had been unknowingly using high-end stuff and are now using cheaper ones?

At any rate, if you grab some rechargeables and a charger, and it does turn out to be a camera fault, then if you get yourself a newer camera at some point just grab one that uses AA cells instead of a proprietary unit battery and they won't be wasted. :)

Eh, no progress - sorry, busy at work, busy at home. But! I did just realise there's yet another low-res "table" shot in the public domain. I hadn't really twigged what was on it. Others are probably way ahead of me but for what it's worth, checkitout:

Still incomplete, at a late stage of the model shop work.

Noice.... Now has anyone got anymore refs of Triangles stashed away? Got the pipework sorted thanks to Gene's pic. Just need to sort out the paint.
