My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - Version 2.0 POST #71 9/22

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - POST # 37 - A SAD UPDATE :(

Aw Man. It was looking so awesome. Good luck on your quest to repair it.

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - POST # 37 - A SAD UPDATE :(

Devestating!!!!!
I'm sorry to hear that after all the hard work and effort you must of put in, it ended in disaster.

However i have to say, from the face cast you have painted up, you really have captured an incredible likeness, it really is uncanny.

Theres something about the look of the joker, i think its the way the eyes are looking up, that makes it so .....well......real!!

Well done, i'm really looking forward to seeing a finished bust.

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - POST # 37 - A SAD UPDATE :(

I'm also very much looking forward to seeing your finished bust of this and going the new route you want to take is probably for the better. in terms of a wig instead of sculpted hair, though I'm sure you were very proud of what you accomplished before.

If you end up getting this done and have available casts I'd love to be up on the list for one.

Poor you! I've had similar heartache making something that took a very long time and see it get destroyed because of cut corners. Really sucks. Just devastates you. But don't give up. Look how many times it took Edison to get the lightbulb right. You aren't doing too bad :)

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - POST # 37 - A SAD UPDATE :(

Do a clay pour into any salvagable mold pieces and "mortar" them together with new clay. It would take alot less time than you think it would since your main hurdle of figuring out the sculpting within that character is already done.

Dont feel bad, you've got ALOT to work with to make a new one in no time. I could've been ALOT worse: you're silicone could have never set at all resulting in a gummy mess all over everything that wouldnt come off the sculpt unless is was scraped off, ruining the clay. Or you could've knocked over your sculpt before molding, smashing in the entire face, ruining the most stressing part of a likeness.
So many things could've went alot worse, but luckily you have got ALOT to work with. Dont give up on this, it looked really good, and still does. That casting of the face looks great! Even like that in resin, you can start blocking out a new head with aluminum foil and foam and build the bust around the face (if you didnt do clay pours).

Hope to see more of this!

That is horrible news. I was looking foward to seeing it finished. Don't give up.

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - POST # 37 - A SAD UPDATE :(

Excellent work. Just one thought: Heath had mentioned in an interview about the Joker's slouch and posture. In the movie, it almost turned out Richard Nixonesque when he crashed the party honoring Dent. He was also very hunched-shouldered when he met the crime bosses, saying, "... kill the Batman."

But that's up to you. In the police station, his posture appeared very upright.

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust

Well - finally ordered more molding supplies - should have them by the weekend...

The resculpting of the this time bald head is almost complete as well. Heres a profile pic showing how I did his posture this time.

I'm still very curious about how I'm gonna have hair for this guy... any ideas aside from a rubies wig are most welcome :)

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - The Recovering Continues 8/30...

You know, if it were me I wouldn't skimp on the wig. I'd get something high end (I know they're pretty pricey) and take it to a beautician with a pic of Ledger as the Joker and discuss whether or not they'd be able to do that for you - the green coloring, curls - the whole nine yards.

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - The Recovering Continues 8/30...

Agreed. The Wig on the recently discussed JRX "Frodo" bust lent a level of realism to the character.

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - The Recovering Continues 8/30...

Yeah - I agree that real hair will be much better - I just ZERO experience with such things...

And after looks at pics of HL - he has very distinct ears... so I'm gonna have to revamp them before the next mold...

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - NEW PICS 9/13 POST # 52

HOLY FRIJOLES, that's GREAT, dude!

I'm NOT a sculptor in any way, but if the hairline had been moved forward a little in the front & the sides, I'd have SWORN that it was a photo of Heath Ledger himself. Maybe like this:

Anyway, that's enough of my uneducated opinion. I'm in AWE. :thumbsup :thumbsup

Re: My TDK Joker 1:1 bust - NEW PICS 9/13 POST # 52

Heath Ledger Lives!!!
Holy S%!$ That is amazing!!!!
The sculpt is perfect!
I agree with Nexus 6, Move the hairline a bit more down & he's alive.
I told you ;) wig/ real hair looks Awesome! he looks real!
You are an artist my friend.
Put me first on the list for this!!!

What a stunning rebound from a devastating setback!

That's a tremendous -- and frightening -- likeness. :eek AWESOME work!

As acid burn wrote, you are an artist. Congratulations for persevering and coming out with an even greater piece in the end. And kudos to your wife for encouraging you when you were feeling that you shouldn't spend money, time, and energy on your art anymore. Your talent was obvious to her, as it is to us, and I hope to you, too.

You're gifted, Hecubus!

Neither did I, LOL! :lol

Thanks everybody for the kind words. I will be taking everyone's advice and pulling in his hairline and dirtying him up today. With all the trouble this thing had, the final castings came out with less than perfect results (weird dents, the head and body I had to resculpt came out very rough cause I rushed it, etc.), but with hair and makeup added these things are practically invisible.

I already have two castings out, can probably make two or three more with the resin I have left (assuming the mold holds up, which it has so far). I am excited to have this sitting in my front window come halloween time!
