My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Finally an Update on page 10

Re: My very first Sculpt.. Ever!! UPDATE!! 12/14/07 :)

Although it's a little premature I figured I would give a little Progress Pic.

I haven't had much time to work on it and when I do it seems nothing has
gone right, so I took a break.. It's funny that no matter how much you
persist on working on something, if Your having a bad day.. The best thing
to do is just leave the project your working on alone..

The Pic is very vague, and not at all great, but I figured I would
show how far I am right now.. I have the basic shape finished, but still have so
much refineing to do..

Re: My very first Sculpt.. Ever!! UPDATE!! 12/22/07 :)

I'm just about finished with the Dome for the Mini Vader Sculpt I'm doing..
After baking the sculpt I ended up getting a few cracks, (not a big deal)..
as you can see the sculpt is primed gray, only so I can fix all the major
imperfections.. I'm not gonna do a whole lot of work to it because I want
it to have the same raw hand made feel that the original does..

I spent a bit more time on the Helmet trying to get it smooth, and trying to
get the lines to look good.. Again it's not perfect, but that's what I was going
for from the beginning..

I actually ripped it apart 3 times because I didn't like the way the previously
used clay (dry crap) was interfering with the new stuff.. I would smooth it out, and then
I would hit a patch of dry clay making it impossible to smooth further unless the clay
was cut out and replaced (freakin bloody Hell) so I threw the whole thing in the
garbage, and started over with all new FRESH Clay.. After I put new Clay on, the whole sculpt
took Me a little over a day to complete..

I'll add more pics after I finish the minor cracks..

Re: My very first Sculpt.. Ever!! UPDATE!! 1/1/08 :)

Wow thats really impressive! Your attention to the details is brilliant!

Re: My very first Sculpt.. Ever!! UPDATE!! 1/1/08 :)

Wow im very impressed! Im a noobie sculptor as well. I have only recently done my first scuplt as well and I was very pleased with it even though it is no where near as complex as yours. I went out and bought all the special tools to help sculpt, but I used maybe 1 or 2 tools out the 20 I bought. I ended up using a flat piece of aluminum I cut to do most of it.
Anyway I think you should definetly do a 1:1. It will probly be easier your second time around and easier to do it larger scale.
Very nice work.

Yeah I hear ya DMaster. I've got about 70 tools and only use a hand full. the ones I used
most on the Dome was a cut up bondo spreader, a ribbon scraper, and a dental pick..
It's good to have all the tools just in case you run into a situation that may call
for something a bit different.. I've also made My own tools for specific areas
for which I didn't have a tool for..

Now that I'm almost done I am noticing spots that I could have done better
and more accurate, but I think it's something I'll get better at with time and
Practice.. I'm difinately, without a doubt My own worst Critic, but I love the
way My first sculpt came out and all of My friends who have seen it in person
were really blown away and want a cast of it when I fix some of the small imperfections..

Thanks Paul and yeah I'd love to get it looking as good as the Marmit,
I'm actually tossing around an Idea I have for the final piece.. If it works out
it should be Bad Ass.. I'm gonna do some sketching to see what it may look like..

Re: My very first Sculpt.. Ever!! UPDATE!! 1/7/08 :)

Ok i've finally gotten to a point where I'm ready to do the final molds.
I do have a couple more things to do to the face mask, but for the most
part it's done.. I also made a positive mold that will later be used for
vacu forming lenses made from clear PETG..

I made some changes to the face that were basically things I overlooked during
the initial Clay Sculpt phase. I'm very happy with the final look, and think it
looks a lot like the real full size Helmet, at least in My Opinion lol :D

Re: My very first Sculpt.. Ever!! UPDATE!! 1/7/08 :)

It's hard to believe that's so small.

Do a run so I can buy one !!

Re: My very first Sculpt.. Ever!! UPDATE!! 1/7/08 :)

I'd be in for a trimmed cast so I could paint it myself. It looks killer !!

Re: My very first Sculpt.. Ever!! UPDATE!! 1/7/08 :)

Here are all the Pieces ready for molding, minus the tusks (making them
tomorrow)

Re: My very first Sculpt.. Ever!! UPDATE!! 1/11/08 :)

I've got an update..:)
I finished the mold for the Dome and poured a test cast..
the results are great Perfect Mold and perfect cast..
I tried to get a quick shot before it got dark tonight
sorry the pic is a little Bluuurr,") but you get the idea..

I'm actually pretty glad I didn't mold the face yet. I noticed
while test fitting the two pieces together that the head on
the face need's to be sanded down a little because a couple
places are rubbing in the helmet, keeping it from fitting
properly..

I'm hoping now with this setback to have the molds complete by
Sunday, or Monday..

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Molds Complete, Pics added

Well it's Monday Jan 15th and as I figured, I got all
the molds complete and even got a test pull from them
Here's the pics..

Although black, I havent painted it yet. I actually just tinted
the Resin to give it an overall better appearence, but for
sh*ts and giggles I did paint the sensors and the inside of
the nose silver to see how it would look.. I'm Happy :) Happy
with the final results from the molds

The next time I update will be pics of a fully trimmed, painted,
and complete with all the metal mesh, and lenses, Vader Mini Helmet
I would appreciate any critiques you can throw at me :)

Thanks!!
