Mynock's Sith Acolyte (SWTOR) armor build

Re: Sith Acolyte (SWTOR) and Darth Nihilus Masks

The Nihilus piece with the black under-mask on (and the head tilt) is nice and creepy.

Really great work on both.

This man is a genius! I've been looking for new ways to add that 'carved' look never occured to me to just double up on the vacuum form. My hat is off to you sir.

Re: Sith Acolyte (SWTOR) and Darth Nihilus Masks

I picked up one of these masks and being as I am very particular in what I purchase for my own SW costuming, I have to say that the detail is extremely sharp and very precise. I highly recommend DM's work on this to anyone looking to do a set of Sith Acolyte armor.

Also a treat to modify, as I have found as good an image as I could to put in cheeks. Soon as my armor is underway Ill post a progress thread.

Danke again DM.

Thanks ManitobaMando. It was a pleasure dealing with you.

Experimenting with other looks: here is a battle damaged look. Claw marks are done using a dremel and then painted silver. The surrounding areas were heavily weathered to darken the detailing and make the claw marks stand out.

I just got one of these in the mail today from DM and HOLY CRAP is it awesome. Beautiful work, incredible detail. Thank you so much DM

Re: Sith Acolyte (SWTOR) and Darth Nihilus Masks

After a month of work, my new Sith Acolyte mask mold is nearly completed! Just a few things to touch up, and it will be ready for casting!

I went to the drawing board and rebuilt the thing from scratch, incorporating some details that were not available to me previously. I sculpted it using Sculpey, then cast in in 65D resin, did more touchup work using bondo. Lastly, I pulled an ABS sheet over this to create a shell, from which I cut out the detailing as in my previous masks. There is now symmetry to the detailing so that left mirrors the right, whereas perviously I had different patterns in each quadrant of the mask. The detailing alone took a week to complete, and several more days to smooth out and blend in.

Once I get my shipment of silicone in (which should be in a day or two), I will be able to begin casting, at which point I will move on to the rest of the armor!

I will not be doing a different back portion at this time, and continue to use the one with the Sith Empire logo from my version 3 mask.

Please tell me you are going to sell this one too. I haven't had time to get to painting mine, which is pitiful because it was my first item I bought here, but due to the fact I am afraid I will mess it up and I don't want to do that, lol. I have great ideas, just not much of an artist. I am VERY interested in this new one too though. I was just looking at your link again so I could see how you did it and I saw this new one. Also, your doing the rest of the armor? Please do that I have been looking for a good something to go with this and my pepakura skills are not the best, I would definitely be in for the armor too.

Re: Sith Acolyte (SWTOR) and Darth Nihilus Masks

From first sculpting the mask in Sculpey, to making the molds and casting in resin, to finalizing the paint job, the process took over a month. But alas, the mask is finally done, and I can now move on to making the armour!
