National Treasure props- list, show off, and discussion

Re: My National Treasure props

By fluke luck my Father has a kit just like this.

I was sure it looked familiar and when I asked him about it he was able to find it with in an hour. He had built it but never fired it and was thrilled I wanted it since it had just been sitting. I can't believe the good luck

Re: My National Treasure props

Brenton that is great news and info. Thanks so much

My biggest concern for mine is the wood grip pattern. You mentioned checkering stuff.

How exactly is the carved grip put into the wood???

How expensive is the stuff???

I'm glad you are not doing a run as I already have a kit and you already have way to much of my money:lol:lol. My kids have to go to the dump to play instead of pre school because of you. Just kidding

Anywho if it's real hard or the equipment is real expensive is the wood grip checkering something you could do for a fee???

The rest I can accurize myself but I just don't know about that grip detail.

Thanks

Re: My National Treasure props

I mentioned this before but just FYI I changed the first post to just a straight list of National Treasure props and links to what's available. If anyone sees something I missed or can add something or a mistake please let me know and I will fix it. I kinda wish there was a one stop shop for this stuff so I thought I would try to create a one stop list for at least National Treasure collectors.

Re: My National Treasure props

Here's the checkering tools I'm getting, plus the instruction booklet:

Checkering Tools:
Checkering Tools - Starter Set: WoodZone.com

Instruction Book:
Gun Checkering Instruction Book: WoodZone.com

I'll start a build thread in the next couple of days, which will contain lots of photos of the exact same derringer that Booth used, which contain a lot more detail in how they did the checkering for this exact derringer.:thumbsup

Re: My National Treasure props

I put this in the first post but I thought I would put it here as well. It's a tutorial on how to build the older Deringer kit and would probably be worth a read if your gonna build a new one as well

Educational Zone #65 - Building a Black Powder Pistol - Page 1

I ran across this a while back, and it's a great tutorial.
It shows a few important techniques that are very useful in getting a derringer looking clean and professional!:thumbsup

Re: My National Treasure props

What do you guys think about this one:

Southwestern Home Decor - Movie Props Catalog - Page1- The Old West

I know it's not totally accurate but it doesn't look too bad, if you get rid of the gold metal on the front right, top and back and swap it out for silver...

EDIT: Please be advised I just tried to email this company to request additional photo's. My email came back returned so I don't know if the company is still in business?? If anyone has any luck getting through to them please let me know! Thanks!

That is a great find. Maybe it can be located elswhere because that sure is close and the stuff Brenton has already located would make it perfect.

I've updated the first post with offerings from Turboman for the Occular Device, Mt. Vernon map, Booth Diary burnt page, Brick, and BOS.

I guess this should be the place to announce that I'm just about finished with the new, updated master of the NT2 Olmec plank found in England. No major changes, just a bit tighter sculpting.

I should also annouce that the other plank is nearly finished and will have slight burn damage, having been 'rescued by a White House staffer from the White house fireplace.'
Should be a fun run . . . look for that thread to begin in the first or second week of August

I just received Turboman's incredible burnt Booth Diary page and Mt. Vernon map. I simply can not say enough good things about him and his work. It looks and feels like they yelled cut, walked over and handed me the prop on set. Simply amazing.

:love:love:love:love:love:love:love

Pics to come soon

This is my Mt. Vernon map and Burnt Booth Diary page made by Turboman. My pictures suck but these two props are amazing. They look like they yelled cut and then Nicholas Cage walked over and handed them to me.

PM Turboman to get them.

BTW he also offers National Treasure President's Book of Secrets, Occular Devices and Brick in addition to the map and Booth page
