Now I'm a Display Prop Too! Done..Finished..Finito!

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Congrats! I would go with just a clean white color for the cast. It shows the true you without any colors or distractions. Although, you could do a tiny bit of light airbrushing of dark gray to create depth and contrast on the white.

One more thing, you could probably put them both through college if you sold copies;-) All in good fun.

Welcome aboard!

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

You could sell that!! That's pretty damn cool, very artistic!

I have a month old girl...good luck with TWINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Good life-cast. How much alginate did that take and did you use hydrocal or ultracal or a mix? I like the way you did your hands and wrists with no arms, but a connection to the breast. Looks very artistic. Congratulationso n the little ones as well.

Sincerely,

Movado

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

nice lifecast.

as for finishing it off, marble would be tough (usually looks fake) and a flat color might be boring....i would suggest a faux antique bronze look..always looks cool/professional, and really easy to do/hard to mess up :)

Way cool! That's exactly what I was going to suggest! A warm, rich faux bronze would look really good on that.

Congrats!

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

A very life-affirming excercise - bravo! :thumbsup

If I may suggest, make a clear acrylic one-off of the lifecast and then make a casting of the baby in the fetal position (after it joines our side of the world, of course!) and display them as a set! :D

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Hey Rimma and David, congrats !

Don´t show the folks at Smooth-on, or it will definitely be put into their next catalogue as an example for their products´ use ;)

And maybe you just found a new line of business ? I bet the well endowed expecting hollywood couples would looooove to have something similar :lol

I don´t think the lil´ones would enjoy a 25 minute lifecasting process ;) And not to mention the ... umm... gross factor ? Personally would remind me a bit too much of good ole Gunther von Hagen :wacko

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Wow, congratulations! I think that's a fine piece to commemorate the twins and will be something awesome to look at and admire after they're born! Amazing.

As for names, Leia Pea would be too much…hahah! But if you still like the 'geek' route, what about Jacen and Jaina. The son and daughter of Han and Leia and they're twins too, more discrete in regards to being geeky, but nice names and star wars related! ;)

Hahah, good luck!

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Wow..:lol

First off, thanks for the kind words everyone....:$:love:lol

How times have changed...
Had someone suggested that in time I'd be showing my wifes *body* on the internet, I probably would have labeled that guy insane. I guess that begs the question of..So who's the insane one now??:lol

Had some more time over the weekend...so I went with a gloss white finish for the casting and I want it to look like it's floating on the base when it's mounted.

Then I cut a piece of Oak for the base, finished the edges and gave it a deep dark stain. It's not mounted yet, but basically that's how it's going to look....finished off with a small 'plaque' of sorts titled 'Two Pea's in a Pod' ...'pun intended' and we'll be good to go....:angel

That's.......................just.......................weird!!!!

Nah, just kidding! I think it's very cool and an amazing prop!!:)

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Very cool idea, I love the way it turned out. I also love how the arms aren't fully cast. Great job! AND congratulations!

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

He he he he he...You said...."mounted"! :lol

Sorry, couldn't resist. That came out great!

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Congratulations on the impending arrival of your twin girls......and my condolences on your impending loss of sanity, control, sleep, etc!
My wife and I decided not to have children but as I get older (48) I find myself wondering....
Anyway it has been a great joy for us to see our nieces and nephews come into the world and see them grow and mature! Now a few of them have children of their own and the cycle starts a new!
In fact the biggest thrill came to my wife and I on Christmas Day when my niece asked us to be Godparents to her son, Nathan!

Now as to the life-cast I think it is a great example of a true artistic masterpiece! Not because of it's beautiful subject but because of the love behind the action.
I have not done so in many years but I used to draw so I do have some artistic schooling!
One thing that stayed with me from my schooling is that the human form is in the truest sense of the word, artistic! A mother with child or in this case children, even more so!
To preserve this moment in your pregnancy is a treasure you will cherished for years to come! Pictures are great but this will give your daughters something visceral to touch and understand as they get older! And I don't think therapy will be needed!

Thank you for sharing this masterpiece with us here! I fell honored that you allowed us into this special time in your life and I hope my sentiment speaks for others here also, even with the jokes and wise cracks!
All my best for a safe delivery and may what ever God(s) you believe in guide and protect you and the ones you love!

Sorry if I lost the "fun" aspect of the thread but I felt moved from seeing your life-cast and felt a little life affirmation would be welcome!

By the way I love the white gloss finish! I hope you will post pics once it is mounted to the oak base!

I gather you are Star Wars fans so I will leave you with this...
May the Force Be With You, Always, Petseal

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Wow the white really brings out some great details on the hands.

At my gym and a few other places around town that ive seen, there are some wall hung life casts like yours. Mainly of female torso's, hands free :lol. Some male and mostly finished in bronze. There could definitely be a market for the with child/children look.
Good luck with the pregnancy too.

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Hi, congrats for your great piece of Art. You, and your cast looks very nice, and the cast came out very good! I do also make lifecasts like this myself for customers. Can you tell me how many people helped to make the alginat mould, i´m asking because of the fast progress when aglinat becomes hard.

Best regards, Joe

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

Congratulations guys, it's a beautiful work of art and I know you'll both treasure it forever. Way to go mommy, keep those babies bakin' in the oven 'til they're nice and done.

Re: Now I'm a Display Prop Too!

That is beautiful. It came out great with the white finish.

My wife saw this and she asked why I didn't do this for her for our first son. I guess I'll be doing something similiar for our next child.

Congrats again. This piece is gorgeous and from what I can see your wife is a great subject to use.

David

The paint you've used, is it wipe clean?
Ok, sorry, that sounds wrong on so many levels.

Was just wondering, because if so, get some dry wipe markers and you could use the life cast as a memo board in the kitchen.

Oh yeah and congratulations to you both.

Please, don't call one of them Ivana.
