Penny Dreadful

Well, it was Satan's sibling, right. The one who fell to earth and was referred to as the master. Or do you think Madame Kali was controlling the doll? I never got that impression. Especially when she began rapid aging after the doll was destroyed. Whatever was inside it seemed to have control over the witches. But no, I'm sure have not seen the last of Vanessa being tormented.

I just finished watching the last two episodes, i thought they were very good--really digging this show. My only gripe was with the final look of Ethan's werewolf. Man, that looked awful! He looked like Eddie Munster, widow's peak and all. I almost laughed when I saw him.

Also, I'm not really up on Dorian Grey lore. I knew that the portrait gets older and he does not, but I did not know he was impervious. And all through this show, I had never really considered him as evil, just a seeker of sensations, but talking of murdering Victor really put a more dark light on his character.

I really hope season 3 puts more story on the Frankenstein angle. That is really my favorite part.

Yeah Dorian being impervious is an LXG based contribution, not that it doesn't work for the sake of this story. I like the Picture Dorian is Chained, leading me to believe that the only way to take him out will be to find a way to unchain the figure in the picture and turn it loose. Who better to understand chains and how to break them than John Clare?

I made that same "Eddie Munster" joke on another forum, and I've read it in a few different places on the 'Net. Apparently the show's creator, John Logan, wanted Hartnett's "wolf" makeup to be as minimal as possible so that a) his facial expressions would still be visible and easy for audiences to see and interpret, and b) he would still be recognizable.

Anybody watching the new season? It started last Sunday. Two new classical characters added!

Odd thing: Whenever I try to get anyone interested in this show, I keep coming up against the same (metaphorical) wall. It is next to impossible to describe this show to someone without it coming off as cornball. Almost any way you describe it, it ends up sounding like some Monster Squad, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Dark Shadows rip off. How do you describe a show about witches, demons, werewolves, vampires, Frankenstein, etc all teaming up and/or fighting each other without it sounding cheesy?

Regardless, I love this show!

I've been trying to get anyone I can into it, and so far everyone that I've shown it to loves it! The season premiere reveal was astounding I thought, can't wait to see what's in store for this season.

Let's face it--most of the entertainment that we RPF lunatics enjoy is cornball and cheesy; sometimes that's why we enjoy it. Some people will "get it", others never will. The best you can do is explain why you like it, and let things take whatever course they're going to take.

Its kind of a shame they put this show into Game of Thrones shadow. I can understand trying to create a competitor, but it might just be letting such a good show fly under the radar. This weeks episode was pretty amazing

Do you really think so? I spent most of my time watching it thinking, "This might finally be the episode that convinces me to stop watching this show." But then, I'm at a complete loss to explain the writers' fascination with Vanessa Ives because I think she's the least interesting character in the series. I'm sure this is all building towards some form of "big reveal" for that character, and I wish they'd get it over with already. Sometimes I think they write episodes like this just to see how unattractive they can make Eva Green look. :lol

I rented the DVD's of season 1 from Netflix and have the first of the season 2 discs coming this week. It's been a very interesting show!
