Hey everyone! this summer my girlfriend wants to go to a con dressed as chell! problem is i dont want to fork out cash for a tailored chell cosplay online because I want to do at least SOME of the work on it, what im looking for is a woman's orange jumpsuit so i can modify it to match the game. Ive been googling for ages now and i just cant find anything that isnt for a man :facepalm anyone got any ideas where i can get a cheap, plain woman's orange jumpsuit?

It will probably be easier to get a unisex jumpsuit and then tailor it yourself. If you have basic to moderate sewing skills it shouldn't be too difficult I wouldn't think, depending on what needs changed.

yeah i thought about going down that route! but if possible i would like to limit the amount of major changes to its sizing/shape as my sewing skills are... ahem* lousy at best :lol most of the uni sex jumpsuits are very very baggy, especially around the legs while chell's suit it quite tailored to her legs and waist. The top half doesnt matter very much to me however as that is unzipped and tied around the waist anyways :p

I really doubt anywhere sells women's jumpsuits, all of the ones I have ever seen are unisex. If you don't feel confident modifying an off the rack jumpsuit, see if there is a tailor or somewhere that can alter clothes local to you. Do not take it to a dry cleaners, they may advertise doing alterations but they are generally terrible.

thanks for the advice! ill probably keep that as a backup, tbh i was thinking of just buying one of these on the cheap and modifying that because at least that would be for the correct gender and hence probably fit better but its the wrong material :/

Listen, I just have to say it...

You are trying to do this "on a budget", you don't want to do it yourself, and you don't want to pay for a commission. What solution exactly are you looking for? It's the classic "cheap, easy, fast - pick two" situation and you don't like any of your options. If you are low on time and skills, you pay someone. If you're low on time and money, you make it yourself and damn the quality.

I'm a big fan of Portal and Portal builds, and I am in no way trying to discourage you, I just don't know what sort of help you are expecting when you negate all of the realistic solutions to the problem.

Well you can get it for $100 on amazon. I wouldn't worry too much about a baggy fit unless you're trying to show your girlfriends ass off at a con haha

I totally get looking for quality at a good price. Just set a price and figure out where you're willing to compromise.

i hear what youre saying, im in no way trying to be cheap or trying to get out of doing work on it myself, im just not confident in my sewing skills haha. Im looking basically for the cheapest way to get the base jumpsuit and modify it as best I can myself! your suggestions for getting it altered is probably the best bet for me so Ill probably go down that route :)

If you don't plan on her wearing the top half normally AT ALL, the modification is pretty easy. There's no easy way to tailor in the shoulder area, but if you can only see up to the waist, all you need to do is buy the regular unisex jumpsuit, have her put it on inside out, and then pinch in the sides of the suit until it fits her properly. Pin it together up the sides and curve out to the original seams by the time you make it up to the arm holes, sew along those lines, trim the extra fabric off, overlock or bind the cut edges, and it's done. Just flip it right side out again, put it on, and tie the sleeves around the waist. It'll take 20 minutes tops if your sewing machine and overlocker (if applicable) are already set up and threaded.

wow! i didnt realise the alterations would be that easy :O if thats the case then I definately should be able to do that myself thanks! In my head I was thinking I would be taking it apart and basically drawing out the pieces about 20% smaller which would be... a disaster to say the least :p
