Production Made Staff of Ra Headpiece. Got it in hand PICS PAGE 7

Thanks Gene,

I think you area bout 99.9% correct. However I believe it is all about how informed a buyer is about a particular prop.

Absolutely. The buyer HAS to beware in this hobby, and like you said, those that go blindly into a deal thinking they are buying the original Ruby Red Slippers from a dude living in his van down by the river deserve to get duped.......

But I don't like the attitude of some dealers that like to pass it of as something that it wasn't. Look, if you worked on the show and have/had access to the molds and want to pop a few replicas out and sell them at a premium given their lineage, that's fine. But don't pretend like this was some sort of discovery that you made after moving a couple of boxes and finding a stash of stuff that was made back in the day, but then misplaced. C'mon, I'm not a chump. I don't care if it was made yesterday or 20 years ago - if I think it's a good piece and I'm satisfied with the price, I'll bite. Just don't try and close the deal with "this was made back for the production and somehow didn't make it to the set" jive. Just be upfront and honest and say, we got a mold - it's accurate to the original, and because of this, we're not going to sell it at the low end of the scale. That's what I'm saying. Or was trying to say.

I got a Headpiece off of a guy on E-bay (and I can't remember who), paid a reasonable price for it, and I love it. But we never tried to pretend that it was "real" (if we can define that word in this hobby....).

I feel exactly the same way. I am ok with what I paid ($500 shipped for the curious :)). Regardless of the validity of claims made... it was a piece that to me was worth it. That opinion based entirely on the going price of better than average replicas available.

Thanks Gene,

I think you area bout 99.9% correct. However I believe it is all about how informed a buyer is about a particular prop.

I knew that the best fan sculpted HeadPieces sell for $300-$450 (Magnoli, Redfour, Acme Magico). Through my investigation I was highly certain that this HP has lineage to a screen used HP (Imans House version). So knowing that and only paying $450, I felt that in the worst case scenario I was buying a prop that had value at the price I was paying.

Let's use another prop as an example;

If you came across a seller that has selling a real Sterling with all the correct attachments that was claiming to be production used (maybe used as a back-up) and came with a COA from a person that worked on the production and was selling it for $500 (the same price as an MR blaster), would you buy it? Would you say "no thanks"?

The worst thing you would have is a really nice prop that came from the hands of a person who worked on the film. Not bad.

The only person who would hate this is a collector that ONLY collects true production used props. Right?

I don't feel taken advantage of at all. I think I got a great deal seeing that I paid the lowest price ever for one of these. Also I never believed 100% what the seller was shoveling.

Anyone buying a supposed production made or screen used prop for pennies on the dollar and believes whole-hearted that they are getting the real deal is living in dreamland. BUYER BEWARE!!!

At that price, it's a steal no matter what it's origin history is. Screenused or not. It definitely originates from the original somehow, be it from the same mold or a mold made off a casting that came from the original mold. There's no detail loss as far as I can see. It's a prized piece no matter what! Pristine perfect source tied replica in mint like condition. You can't beat that with what else is out there for the price.

I do find it funny how they just fell out of the wood work but then again I could see Norman Harrison putting some stuff in a box and forgetting about it over the years. Any way you look at it. It is a great prop. Screen used or not. Made buy the guys that did them in the movie.

That is correct. I was contacted after the original sale on Ebay and offered a second chance bid. "Luke Harrison" told me he had another HP that his Grandfather owned. I believe the letter that Graal has was originally the one I asked for. I don't know if Graal ever got pics of Norman holding the HP as I did.

Then about a week ago, "Luke" put another HP up for auction. I asked him about how many more they have and they said that this was the last one. We shall see.

I am glad that Jason has had a lot of help from the other owners of this piece. I know there are members here that are pretty upset that their HP is not the only one. I hope they too can come forward with some more info on when and how they got theres along with how much they had to pay.

What is with IJ props? I don't think there is any other type of prop that attracts so much controversy and investigation. Not that I'm complaining...

If either of you two would like to have yours cast in pewter and gold plated for a small run, give me a yell. I have access to all the facilities, and start up cost is a little pricey, but easily recouped. I'm partnered with another member here doing a small run of his first gen casting Medal of Yavin. We're behind on the project because we're self funding it, and both just moved, so cash flow has been very very tight, but there should be some big progress very soon.

Thanks TCW,
I think if I did a run, I would have them cast in bronze.

Would I would certainly love to have one if you did. I think everyone here would rabidly sign up on an interest list lol. Is it something you are seriously considering to recoup your costs?

This wouldn't be to recoup my costs, since my costs are extremly low. IF I did a run it would be a VERY low run... like 5 headpieces.

I won't be doing a run if I feel that these pieces are truly production made pieces. I also want the other owners to jump on board if I decide to do a run. I am NOT going to do it if others are going to get PO'd.
