Suggestion Recaster listing

Some boards have a permanant posting of known recasters. I thought It may be handy for people here to have a page they can refer to before they buy.

i completly agree. this kind of list should be on every prop forum. that way the recasting bastards will have no where to hide.

i have a few names to add if the admins decide to do it.

I would like to see a forum section where both good and bad vendors can be listed.
Flakey sellers who fail to deliver on time or deliver goods not as advertised aswell as recasting are all things i would like to know about before i order from someone.
Likewise i would also like to know who offers a service with good quality pieces, good communication, fast delivery etc.
Sometimes knowing who to go to is as important as who to avoid.

A list of people who are recasting is a great idea - stickied to the top of the page in the prop section perhaps?

I like defstartroopers idea as well - I mean we are all often members of more than one forum.

that way, it also keeps the mods and admin of various board free of accusations of biasedness or favouritism.

They probably feel they have enough stuff to moderate as it is :lol

Problem is, recasters who are well liked (mostly for providing people with product) within the community seem to get a pass on most forums (not necessarily by forum admins, but mostly by the community).
Or very often those people don't make the "list" because whether they recast or not is "controversial". :rolleyes
Controversial to some, not controversial to those who know better.

The only forum that I know of that takes an unflinching stance on this regardless of the popularity of the perpetrator is my forum at SWP.
At SWP, you are not allowed to show pics, talk about, or even acknowledge the existence of any wares from people on the recaster list. Merely discussing their product is an indirect and unintentional advertisement for them. I say limit their exposure to the public in any way possible.

Some say it is too hard a stance, but it keeps thinks clean and tidy just the way I like it.

I see your point about unintentional advertising, but there are also people out there who have bought a recast item unknowingly who wouldn't of bought it had they known.
These people create their own exposure they don't have a problem selling these things, to not acknowledge they exist doesn't make them dissapear or limit their sales.
Anyone can post about anyone on the board i leave it to the person reading to decide for themselves what they like from the evidence given.
Topics won't get locked unless they descend into namecalling or threats and go completely off-topic.
Topics will be unlocked again if someone has some pertinant information to add.

I totally agree. That's why I think lists are a great tool. Problem is like I said before, a lot of people who should be on the list, don't make it on the list for various reasons.

I think that if every forum took the stance of SWP, their sales would be limited to places like ebay. Having totall blackball on prop related sites would drastically reduce their ability to move their product. Prop forums could advise against buying from unknowns on ebay.
Nothing is going to eliminate it or totally prevent it, but this type of handling is the best and most effective tool we have against them.

I thought about compiling a simple list but that doesn't always tell the true or full story.
A forum presents a more detailed view of the seller or buyer in question allowing the viewer to make a better informed decision

Forewarned is Forearmed

That is totally true.
However I've found that the majority of people aren't willing to invest the proper time researching and reading through pages of back and forth arguments in order to come to a decision.
It has to be digestible.
Maybe a list, with a short one or two sentence description of the offense(s).

PS, I'm not suggesting that every forum take the kind of stance I've taken with SWP, as I already know that is not realistic. But damn it would be nice.

Well i can't make anyone read or research the information but i can provide a place where those that do take the time to do so can.
In most cases recasts can be outed as such with absolute certainty and the subject in question will result in a short discussion, in the other cases it's helpful to get as much information as possible to form a personal opinion because in these cases personal beliefs is really what it boils down to.

I made a board just for this.

So sign up and name and shame.

This is a great idea(I have some info to add to it) and your good intent is appreciated but the problem is that the site is elsewhere. I would suggest you speak to mods here about getting a post regarding your site stuck so eveyone hears about it. How many times have we seen someone get recast, buy a recast, or ask if someone is a scumbag when the sad truth came to light years prior?

The RPF gets a lot of traffic which is why it would nice to have a listing for people to refer to so they don't get stuck with a recast.

Thanks, i know a number of times that a list here at the rpf has been suggested, the staff seem hesitant to do that for whatever reasons they have.
I think it being offsite has an advantage because a lot of buyer and sellers are not members here, but they may be members on other forums or even just eBay or other auction site users.
The registration will be permanantly open on my forum unlike here also.
Hopefully word will spread round the prop community as a whole not just the rpf eventually.

Nice one defstar ,i have been ranting about a sticky but this idea of yours would work much better I think . I will certainly stick it up on the RPB and will also suggest it too a few other forums too. I have a lot of names already so i would be willing to pass these on. The more people get onboard with this idea the better really.
Its also an issue that many dont even consider when buying a prop or parts , and some education and info on the consequences of recasting would go a long way to help.
