Interest Replica Nikkor 8mm fisheye lens parts for HAL

It's not perfect. If you were to put it side by side with a real lens you'd notice a lot of differences. The main thing is I haven't found a cost-effective way to replicate the look of the deep concave underside of the actual primary lens, and also its single-coated glass look. The light from the back also looks like a rather narrow beam. But it's about compromises for affordability!

Hi there! Well there’s no party just yet. :) Because I don’t really want to take payment from folks and then put in an order, it’s going to be a little while before I’ll be in a position to fully fund this project. Sorry for the lack of updates!

Just watching Star Trek "Balance of Terror" (S1 E14 1966) and saw this in the opening scene... a wall mount camera in a wedding chapel, Scotty is adjusting it.

I was thinking maybe a CNC machine could make a lens mold, and after sanding and polishing a lens could be cast?

Okay. So mentioning money does bring up another update.

Right now my wife is in the throes of starting up a business, and accordingly we can’t justify any other expenses at the moment.

As mentioned, I dislike the hobbyist funding model where people take cash off interested parties and use it to fund development or manufacturing of a part run. So I have to put this project on hold for the foreseeable future, until I can put the production costs myself up-front.

I have already paid for the production of aluminium HAL lens mount rings, and I could sell those separately if there’s interest. The reason I haven't is it would make it more difficult to produce full sets when I’m in a position to do so.
