Salzo 37 1/2 inch (1/2 studio scale) TOS Battlestar Galactica - with a twist!

Because I constructed the landing bays to be removable if needed I cut off the end sections of the Coffin Legs. I recreated the end version on the bay themselves. Although detail is not accurate it looks busy enough to pass when viewed under the main body legs.

Following this build with interest.
I've one of these babies in the stash myself and i'm picking up a lot of useful information.
What plans do you have for the landing bays ?
My kit was one of the latter ones Mike produced and has clear resin parts for the bay roofs to aid lighting and i've been thinking about purchasing Randy Cooper's detail sets for this area.

The landing bays are still a "thinking about' item. Inside atleast.

I probably will just go with the supplied decals and build a short landing section. Light with LED Chaser lights.

I have looked at a few with the Randy Cooper mods but I think I will keep it basic in there. Not convinced all that internal detail can be seen that well.

Finished the fiber in the lower head. 0.25 and a couple of 0.50 fiber.

Also, due to excessive air bubbles in the castings on the engine section I had to redo the greeblies. Tried to fill and reshape but just didn't work out so just replaced with something.

Thanks, just working on the very fine lip around the top head. Due to it being a very fragile casting it has broken in spots during shipping and handling. Sport gluing thin styrene in place and then filling with a two part epoxy. Finicky work.

Small update. Finally finished with the lip repair around the head. (White Styrene) Probably the single most difficult part to accomplish to date. Just need to fill, sand and prime now.

Also completed the castings for the engine sides.

Ok, don't laugh too hard. I am sooo Anal that I created the "infamous" bottle cap, the best I could in such a small scale. It will look better under some primer. No one will see it but I will know it's there.

Also cast some items such as the panther cupolas and exhaust pipes as well as a bit more detailed transporters.

Ok, I need some opinions on the bombs, set of five at the front near the legs. I created new ones but the detail is a bit heavy. Do they look ok?

They look pretty good for the scale.

I think they used B-17 oxygen tanks, and there were two rows of 5.

Really awesome work on this miniature.

Yep, I think your right. Thought they were bombs from a B-29. Tweaked it a bit. This looks a bit better now.

Thank you for your compliment. Much appreciated.

I am trying my best to make a respectable version of Mike's kit.

Ready to prime some of the small castings, etc. I think I am going to use Vallejo light grey primer as the base color and prime in sections and then re-assemble. The color is fairly light compared to Tamiya primer and just slightly darker than the base resin. As can be seen here on the marder.

Maybe it was a B29 O2 tank, I really don't remember.
