Seriously?? Some people really don't know Vader is Luke's Father???

I've got one for ya... the other day my nephew's friend is talking about Star Wars and the Clone Wars and he says
"I heard a rumor that they're making a new Star Wars"
I said "You mean the TV show?"
he said "No! I mean episodes 4, 5, and 6..."

and he was SERIOUS! :confused

Fail to see why this girl is guilty of freakiness. To be ignorant of some crap in some film (because in the wider picture that's all it is) is not blameworthy. In fact it's to be commended! Maybe she doesn't dig sci-fi...

I'm considered an utter freak because I don't care a flying toss about football. Same thing...

She is 22 years old....and I am now ashamed to call her my friend.
I mean its believable, not everyone likes starwars. I bet theres tons of shocking things I should know about star trek but I dont because I dont watch it :lol but you shouldnt be ashamed, I mean... it's just a movie.

Add to that, that just about all the movies are played semi regularly on many different cable channels, you'd think people would have seen most of them by now.

But I guess if you don't have cable...

I am almost sports and alcoholic drink illiterate for instance.

I am sure many would marvel I couldn't name a single active quarterback right now.
Not one.
I am fast losing track of many new famous people as well.
Sometimes the wife has that enterntainment news channel on and I have almost no clue who they are taking about most of the time.
Jeez, I thought it was just me; couldn't care less about sports, not a big drinker, and don't know who any of these kids are that are starring in all the new films and/or releasing new CDs.

But then, a large majority of the "sports freaks" I've known over the years don't know much about movies, so I figure we're even. :cool

I was struck by this recently. Being a copper means I do contact various strata of society, and a lot of juvenile miscreant ne'er do wells and it was horrifying when in conversation you make reference to something and they don't get it.

think about it now. anyone born mid 80's on will not have experienced this as we did

...hell never even saw records maybe, only CD's
I've seen this in person. Years ago when it became clear CDs were going to be the new music medium, our local music shop moved their remaining LPs (vinyl/record albums, for you youngsters) to the very back of the store. As I was standing in line to make a purchase, a young girl approached the counter with an LP in her hands and asked the clerk, "Is this a calendar?" When the clerk tried to explain to her what the item was that she was holding, she just shrugged and, with a confused look on her face, put it back where she found it. I can only guess her parents weren't music lovers.

Mind you, in the very same shop in the late 70s I saw a girl (who was holding a Beatles album) turn to her friend and say, "I didn't know Paul McCartney was in a group before Wings." :confused

Reminds me of the many confused questions clerks would get at the old Suncoast near where I live (before it closed) about why they stocked Record LP's (they were pointing to the Laserdisc section). I found it odd, even before i owned an LD player I knew what they were.

The the strangest thing is I remember like this was going on a date in college with this girl.. we were both about 19 or 20 at the time and somehow it came up that she had never used, nor *seen* an audio cassette tape. Keep in mind this date took place back around '96 or '97. I mean I still had a tape deck in my car at the time (which she found hilarious of course), and even if one had fully embraced CD's at that point you'd think she'd have grown up and at least *seen* the format when she was a kid. If someone said that to me today and they were 19, I could probably go with it, but back then, I found it unbelievable.

But it is a part of POPCULTURE and has stood the test of time unlike , so many things nowadays, that are going to be minor blips and than forgotten. My father hates science fiction and even he knows Vader is Lukes father.

my story is from middleschool. this girl hadn't seen SW, IJ, or The Rocketeer. totally blew my mind. to me those movies were like walking; you didn't just 'not know' this stuff.

she's 22...
Here's your problem, generation gap.

i just turned 22. that puts a whole other level of "WTF?" on it. people my own age are making me feel old.
i blame the parents.

One of my friends, who has been a recruiter for some of the most recognized VFX companies, has not seen Star Wars...

The first two, definitely. But not the last one.

ok, i guess i can give you The Rocketeer. it's just that i'd seen it about a hundred times, used to run around the house wearing foil-covered cardboard tubes with a piece of putty stuck to one of them, so someone having never even heard of it was a strange idea to me at the time.
that was middle school, by the way, not highschool. my bad.

Watched a show the other night called never did me any harm, they take a family and get them to live back in the time when the parents grew up, this one went back to the 70's so everything in the house is taken back to the 70's, this womans 17 year old son had his games console taken away and within seconds he was crying like a 3 year old it was hilarious.

Ain't no thang.

People are often shocked at the commonplace films, shows and songs I'm not familiar with. Almost as shocked as the odd stuff I am too familiar with for my age!
I know naff all about most of the internet fads, all the 'base belong to us' and other such.

Bottom line is that we can only see so much of the myriad stuff out there. If you get the chance - share it.
