Short Circuit Johnny 5 Cardboard 1:1 Head WIP

One day I would love to attempt this, hopefully these days electronics would be advanced enough you could have a fully automated unit.

One small nitpick, only the left eyelid has the slit cut out of it.

Well spotted! I did not see that. They do say the key to beauty is asymmetry :love

I think i've made the eye lids slightly too big too, so i'll look at re-doing them.

Also just noticed that his mouth pieces has two smaller light looking things on his chin.

Thanks :cool

Just out of curiosity where are the original robots? Or even the spare body parts you see throughout the first film? Are they in a personal collection? Don't mean to chock your thread with other things Andy but I was curious, and we know that killed the cat :)

Aww man imagine having an actual screen prop from one of the short circuit movies. I'm not sure i'd be able to handle that. :love

Already done the hard part... Come on! do the body!

Haha we'll see. If I've learned anything it's to ALWAYS give in to pier pressure :lol

It it would be amazing for sure. :cool

Very small update.

Re-done the eye lids thanks to Skint, re-sized them all and are now slightly more accurate shapes.

The eyes don't fully close, but I'm going to display it eyes open and am happy with very mild movement. I've got the top eye lids on wires which are glue'd at the nose but the top eye lashes can rotate freely. The bottom eye lids are glue'd onto small wooden sticks and held in place with small rare earth magnets.

Here it is free standing with all his eye lids open. Need to bend the wire slightly to even up the angles but it's looking pretty good.

Have been looking for more things around the house to build up detail on his eyes but no luck yet, will move onto the neck next.

Will you be colouring the head like the others of his kind, Johnny 5 at the start of the sequel, Punk Johnny, or Golden Johnny?

Way cool build man!

I've seen that movie a dozen times and never noticed the servo motors in his face until that close up shot just now...Is that just a panel that's popped off/missing for the photo or does that whole thing rotate up?

you mean his nose kinda thing? its there all the time on number 5, i think maybe the 1-4 that stuff hasn't fallen off might have it covered. i just watched short circuit 1 last night and had never paid such close attention before :cool

Very cool. I started with construction paper and cardboard.

Great seeing you do your own work.

Wow, fantastic! Subbed!

Thanks guys, appreciate it :thumbsup

Wow that is amazing if you get it accurate enough you should fiberglass it and then cast it

There are covers on the mouth section and on top of the head at the start, Johnny losses his in the lightening strike, I assume it's so we can tell Johnny from the others later on. The good thing about the servos being exposed is that you can use them as a reference for scale.

Slightly off tangent:

A thought just occurred to me; Would it be possible to build a working Number 5 today?

I'm not suggesting that anyone tamper with Artificial Intelligence with such limited storage space for data as indicated in the films, but at the very least make it a very eye-catching mode of transportation as shown in Short Circuit 2 during the near mandatory chase scene.

If it was possible, I would really like to try it even if I have no education in that field of study.
