Silicon mask casting question

Can you pour a silicon mask in a 2 part rigid mother mold using the same life cast that you used to do the sculpt as the core? I've been watching the Stan Winston online courses and the instructors for the silicon mask course are from Immortal Masks in Ca and they said you can't do that, that you need to use a 'reduced core' in the mother mold or the silicon mask won't fit ... how important is this as they don't explain how you go about making a 'reduced core' from your life cast? I couldn't find a tutorial online for making 'reduced cores from life casts'. My lifecast was done by a special effects co for me and it's made out of stone
