He's a great and versatile actor, much of these English types are; they come from solid training and much are what we in the States would refer to as "character actors." They can do pretty much anything. I think he's exceptionally good in Never Let Me Go, Silence, and The Social Network. It's strange to me now seeing all these posts now going back and defending The Amazing Spider-Man series like they're under-appreciated masterworks all because of No Way Home. No, they still suck.
They do suck, but I'm actually gonna give cred to a great 3 beat moment in the first Amazing Spider-Man flick... (by paraphrasing it)
Near the end, Gwen Stacey's dad dies. As he dies he makes Peter PROMISE not be bring Gwen into his world - for her safety...
Then Gwen shows up at Peter's apartment, crying - post funeral, giving him crap for not being there "My classmates were there... where were you?". Peter is upset saying he can't see her... she walks away crying, turning back "He made you promise not to see me, didn't he?" - and then leaves.
Then we see Peter being Spidey around the city... shows up late to class (as Peter). As Peter walks in the teacher is giving him crap for always showing up late.... As he's getting to his seat behind a sad/angry, Gwen Stacey, he responds with to the teacher "I'm sorry... it won't happen again, I promise" to which the teacher responds with "Don't make promises you can't keep, Peter"
And then Peter leans into Gwen's ear from behind and whispers "but those are the best promises to break."
Gwen Smiles.
CREDITS.
GREAT ending to a boring, slow movie.
But I re watched that going into No Way Home, and so when Andrew Garfield, "Peter 3" talks about Gwen dying and not pulling punches?
I was all tears.
