Star Trek Gary Seven IDs - FREE DOWNLOAD

Re: Star Trek Gary Seven IDs

That was one of favorite episodes. I never thought of having those props. Great work!
Man, I wish that spin-off series was made.

Re: Star Trek Gary Seven IDs

Here's a higher res image for folder reference. What's the Precinct No.?

Looks like 81 to me.
Great job on the ID's by the way!!!
Interesting point....these ID must have been a standard ID issued for the movie studios as I have seen this same card used as Jim West's ID in the TV show "The Wild Wild West" as well as Maxwell Smart's Control ID in the TV show "Get Smart"
I've been searching for these "wallets" myself for quite awhile. If anyone finds them please post the info.
Thanks!!!

Re: Star Trek Gary Seven IDs

Great project, mic! I've got a Gary Seven servo as well and would love a set of these IDs to go with it. :love

There still appear to be some discrepancies in the NSA card font. The shape of the numbers on the replica don't quite match the originals. It's especially evident with the "3." Does anybody know what the correct font is?

Also looking for a vendor for ID card folders for them.

I believe this type of credential case is called a "commission book." It's a couple of thick rectangles of cardboard covered with thin leather or leatherette, without any windows, to which ID cards are affixed directly.

Strong makes a couple of different types. None of them seem to be perfect matches for those used in Assignment: Earth, but maybe this link will help anyway:

Strong Commission Case: Side Open - Duty

Thanks, Pilot. :)

Re: Star Trek Gary Seven IDs

Here is the final. Nothing glaringly bad. Got the font I was missing. Check out the O, C, G, & the Numbers on the NSA ID. Also decided to give it 5% gray. Colored the CIA properly and moved the "is identified" up a bit. Condensed "Department", "City", and "York" on the NYPD. I'm satisfied.

So......

Was this.

Any suggestions and comments still welcome.

Now to find the folders. Free cards to the member that finds them.

Michael

Looks good! I would be interested in a set to go with my servo (which needs one of the antenna tips re-soldered). It cracks me up that the handwriting is the same on the CIA ID's and possibly the others as well. It looks as they didn't even try to differentiate the signature styles.

Hi micdavis,

this is outstanding work, I'm impressed. What is the name of the font you used?

So long and keep on trekking

Re: Star Trek Gary Seven IDs - UPDATED Post #44

Hey mic... What are the measurements for the ID folders?

Re: Star Trek Gary Seven IDs - UPDATED Post #44

Best Guess.

More than likely they were whole numbers, but that's what the computer told me.

Re: Star Trek Gary Seven IDs - UPDATED Post #50

These look great, mic. :love

I think it was probably a wise choice to offer them without the cases.

I just hope I can do a decent job of reproducing the signatures myself. :confused

I've sent payment for a set through your JY thread as well. :)

Any bookbinder can make those "commission book" folios. They simply bind a bookcover with no room for the book.

Also, the mail order and onlline company that specializes in instant spy or detective credentials for those who do not want to be burdened down with training or sanctioning, NLES / NIC, sells them ready made in wine color and black, but they don't show in the catalog...you have to ask for them. They have a leatherette-like cover in sort of a pebbled grain texture.

Call up the book repair or bookbinding places in town, ask if they can do it. The ones at NIC are only one size whereas a bookbinder can do it any size and some can even gold foil hot-stamp the outside of the case with CIA, FBI, EIEIO. Be sure you have a clear working relationship with the bookbinder before you ask for governmental gold stampings on your folio books or some men in black :cool may be lurking around when you come to pick up your order.

Great tips, eltee. Thank you so much for the information. I did look at NLES / NIC, and also at Maxsell, but didn't see the commission books. If you hadn't mentioned that they have them (but don't advertse them in their catalogs), I wouldn't have thought to ask them.

Do you happen know what size the pre-fabricated commission books come in? I'm guessing they would be Federal and would fit the NSA creds.

I wonder if anyone with a good relationship to a bookbinder might be willing to take on run of "Gary Seven Commission Books." :)

Failing that, I'll have to hunt around for some bookbinders locally.

Main libraries often have a book repair dept. with alot of bookbinding capabilities, and if they don't repair their own they probably have a contract with a local bookbinder.

Federal commission books are not standarized. I've got several in the collection and they vary. The original FBI creds were commission book types with the ID glued in, the plastic heat sealed over it and then a framing sewn over all of that to discourage removing the card.

Great suggestions. I'm just a little skeptical about being able to find a library here that will accommodate my request. In general, it tends to be hard to get Japanese shops or services to do anything that deviates from precedence, unless you happen to know someone personally. But I may be able to find a bookbinder who will help me with a "TV collectible-related project." The Japanese DO understand collecting! :)

Very interesting about the various sizes of Federal commission books, and especially about the original FBI creds. I had no idea they originally heat sealed the plastic over the cards and then sewed the framing right on top! I guess they weren't taking any chances. Thanks for the information, eltee. :thumbsup

Re: Star Trek Gary Seven IDs - UPDATED Post #50

I received my credentials today, and they are simply fantastic! :love

Thanks for doing such an outstanding job Mic!

Re: Star Trek Gary Seven IDs - UPDATED Post #50

Thought this was mildly interesting.

I was watching the Pilot for Magnum P.I. the other night this NIA guy flashed an ID card.

The top one looked familar. Not exact but clearly similar.
