I received an ANOVOS DSC phaser (which had paint and electronics issues) I recently bought from someone on Facebook:
So alterations have now begun to turn it into Ray Lai’s proposed SNW “Middle Ground” concept design:
First bit of business was opening up the P1 to see what could be done to swap out the false PLI (Power Level Indicator) half-round as Ray’s notes called for “Replace Silver Scroll with Power Indicator”.
The trick to getting it apart easily, once the four hex screws on the bottom were removed, was having the raising sight in the “up” position:
I’ll use a small hobby saw to cut off what’s there and replace it with either a 3D printed clear or vacuum-formed lens with a numbered power meter readout underneath to emulate the TOS/SNW phasers:
Then there’ll be adding a perforated heatsink where the delta has been sanded down, and swapping out the P2 emitter.
The different design elements and colour scheme really spoke to me, and since this ANOVOS phaser had some issues to begin with I figured it would make the perfect test bed for this project
