Star Trek SNW Concept Phaser

I received an ANOVOS DSC phaser (which had paint and electronics issues) I recently bought from someone on Facebook:

So alterations have now begun to turn it into Ray Lai’s proposed SNW “Middle Ground” concept design:

First bit of business was opening up the P1 to see what could be done to swap out the false PLI (Power Level Indicator) half-round as Ray’s notes called for “Replace Silver Scroll with Power Indicator”.

The trick to getting it apart easily, once the four hex screws on the bottom were removed, was having the raising sight in the “up” position:

I’ll use a small hobby saw to cut off what’s there and replace it with either a 3D printed clear or vacuum-formed lens with a numbered power meter readout underneath to emulate the TOS/SNW phasers:

Then there’ll be adding a perforated heatsink where the delta has been sanded down, and swapping out the P2 emitter.

The different design elements and colour scheme really spoke to me, and since this ANOVOS phaser had some issues to begin with I figured it would make the perfect test bed for this project

UPDATE: Carefully using a thin hobby saw, I managed to remove the existing P2 emitter:

Also cut down the false PLI on the P1 for replacement of a proper one as per Ray Lai's SNW concept:

That'll make adding the 3D-printed replacement parts a while lot easier :)

My poor phaser! ;) I wish I'd kept it now as this shows real promise! I would never have seen this concept art if it weren't for your build however. I may have to print a replacement one to give this a go at some point. Keep us updated on your progress!

This is a good “middle ground” design and will look great, too, but I still really like the more streamlined SNW version better, even though it looks like a PHASER design that should be ahead of time of the original TOS design and not this streamlined before the TOS version. Still really like the original SNW PHASER II pistol design. This “middle ground” version is a more accurate and plausible version for SNW’s timeframe/timeline, though. This ”middle ground” Discovery/TOS version is still very good/very cool. I'm liking it!
