StarCraft BattleCruiser (Scratchbuilt) FINISHED - Now with a ton of pics.

Got more done today.

Decided that the logo would go best on the flat part here.
BC304.jpg

Put this together real quick in photoshop. Colorwise, something darker than the ship itself, but still have to decide on that.
As for the font that says Battlecruiser, have to pick a good one as well. This is very much a place holder for fun.
On the right and left side of the words, I'm thinking of adding little railings.

So after nearly 11 months and saying that I was going to be working on this before....decided I needed to do some more work. Last year got super busy with working on that family video.
Figured I just keep it as the base is, cleaned it off and primed it.

Glad to see you back in action! This is looking great. Can't wait to see the final model + base all together :)

Heres how I am weathering the base. Goes with the in universe story I have for this whole build, which I'll write it down later. Basically an abandoned place thats found, but only a few years old. So trying to keep the rust down and not over do it. The front won't really have much at all, as it will have all the logo stuff anyways.

One big issue I'm wondering about is for the decals I'll be printing. The last time I made decals, they had no white, so I was able to print them on clear. But this one will have a bit of white in it, but if I use the white decal paper, then I have to cut alone the edge, which I don't really want to do, as I don't think it will look so good.
I saw that there are places that have printers with white ink, which could work, but also seems like a hassle to go about, and possible pricey.
So another option I am hoping someone might know.
What if I made the white part a very light gray instead?
On typical white paper, it would come out light gray, but what about if printed on clear, would it still be light gray? That decal paper isn't really cheap either, so I don't want to waste a bunch testing this out.
Any ideas?

How about using the original decal print for a masking pattern to paint base white. I dont think the light gray ink would work.

Went to the hobby store and they had different packs of the decal paper. So I got one pack that had 3 clear sheets and then another that had 1 sheet if white. I can do some tests now without feeling like I ruined a whole sheet. Plus I can print in a corner, and if it works or not, still reuse the rest of the sheet just making sure nothing is in that same corner in Photoshop. Now I just have to hope one of these ideas work.

So I've been working on the ship itself now.
Getting the weathering done, light as I can make it all while still making it as it had been sitting a while. Still have plenty more to go.
I've actually been looking at real stuff as I drive around to see how things rust and wear down. Funny how it can be so random and in small or large places. Guess its that whole life is unpredictable type thing. So I can get away with so much in that regard.

Top down, and the big area where a logo will be placed.

Not bad, but needs more rust, like in all the pictures.

Camera decided that the background was more interesting. But I really lightly weathered some parts here, maybe too light.
BC318.jpg

Being some thrusters under here, figured it would get a bit more dirty/burnt like.

Here its standing up on a table and I thought it looked really awesome like this. None of these parts are weathered at all yet, but yeah. Love this dark blue tint I gave it. Imagine a ship like this flying up behind you....
I couldn't find any canon sizing on this thing, but given how it looks like its suppose to be, probably close to Star Destroyer size.

So heres a ton of pics from work I've been doing all week.
Also got the decals made up and printed. The left paper is white background while the right one is clear.
Since I don't have a printer that prints white, I had to print the words over a color that I test printed to match the base as close as I could. Not really the way I would have liked to do it, but I think it will work. I'll cut it out close as I can to the letters. Theres 2 just incase.
Also below that is 5 of the logos, but I only need one. That I will cut out best I can, so I have 4 of which I can mess up....hopefully not though.

And now all the painting and weathering. Also blacked in the panel lines here on the wings.

Still got much to do.

Decided to put on some decals where I'm done painting. First 2 went on perfect. The other 2 bunch up and curled up on the inside of the edges. I'll have to reprint the one as I didn't make an extra. These things are really hard to work with.

All that hard work has sure paid off!
Thanks. So close to finishing. Just a few more things painting and the rest of the decals. I also forgot to say, that while fighting the one decal that didn't even work, I knocked over the little bottle of mircoset and spilled like 3 dollars worth. Annoying. Thankfully I'll have enough to finish.

I have done that before. I lost a whole bottle that way

And yesterday I did it with paint. I had the perfect color mixed up for my Snowspeeder and spilled it all when the airbrush hose knocked it over

That's probably worst. Hope it didn't make too much a mess.

After trying several more times to get the white logo cut out and applied, it just keeps bunching up. I also tried the big rectangle shaped words, and it also just made a mess....so I decided to tackle this another way. Having to basically invert everything. Thankfully its just the base, as ALL the decals are now perfectly on the model itself. So where they will be on the base, I'm going to paint that part white, and then reprint the decals on clear and change the main logo from white to black and then hopefully that will work.
Also I just had a new computer built and everything including duel monitors comes out to just over $2000. More than I was really expecting. I also got the yearly subscription for the lastest Photoshop, as I have been using CS2 for a while now. Having to learn the new stuff now....but I already found some cool features and made the words much cooler looking.
Only issue is, apparently they didn't include wifi, so I can thankfully connect to the internet via a cable, but the printer is actually my roommates and that I've been doing with wifi....so to print these last decals, might have to bring it in here and hard connect it.

This last month has been a bit more hectic than I was hoping for, but I decided that I needed to really get this done. So I would say I'm at 98% done....maybe even 99%. Got a few little parts to paint and touch up. And then the last two big decals on the base, that I really hope will go on. That will be tomorrow, or later today now that its well past midnight, but about to go to sleep. After that its look it over and make sure I didn't miss anything.
So hoping I can actually get this thing done tomorrow....then take a bunch of high res pics with the good camera.

Tomorrow will be just over looking everything and so pretty much its done.
For now, here are the final pics of the base.

Got these last 2 pain in the butt decals on. The words on the bottom went on perfect. the main logo still wanted to fight me. I did my best to cut it out along the white part, but the left side in the middle curled in and just wouldn't go flat.
BC331.jpg

Curled in here and in trying to get the to uncurl, it wore off the ink on the logo.
BC332.jpg

In the end, after it dried, I cut off the curl and put some more mirco set on it. Since its suppose to have that old worn look, figures it works, as thats best I'll get it.
BC333.jpg

I was worried about the words, as the other one I tried didn't work at all, but this one worked beautifully. So now hopefully I can get a ton of pics tomorrow.
