Sucker Punch costume thread

Does anyone have any good photos of Blue's various suits? I'm thinking of trying to pull off one of those to go along with the Sucker Punch group some of my friends are pulling together.

For those of you that have con to previous cons, or out in public in the suckerpunch costumes, what are the rules to be let in with these fabulous weapons? Do i need to keep the orange tip of my gun? are we allowed to take them out for pictures?

Also as i dive deeper into this baby doll costumes i am noticing more and more differences in props and costumes. not only with the gun, or the pocket on the front but the buttons used as well. Maybe I am just being picky, how do you guys decide which version to go with?

Also anyone find really good snaps/buttons for the baby doll skirt?

Mostly I would suggest keeping your katana sheathed. But for the most part it really varies con to con, and sometimes day to day. One day you might have someone at gun check who looks at a 12-lb metal replica with no orange tip and goes "eh" and the next day you'll have a plastic gun you got at iParty for $3 spray painted black with the orange tip intact taken away from you. I've never had a problem at SDCC, but my boyfriend's dull switchblade confiscated at Dragoncon, and later on a fake switchblade pretty much made with duct tape taken away by the same moron who confiscated my $3 plastic gun. You really never know. Just try to play it as safe as possible.

And if you're talking about the differences in the costumes on the mannequins versus the movie--they're not the same ones. (Note for instance, Babydoll's holster belt loops on her top in the front on the display are the same buttons as on the skirt, but the hero version that you see in posters and the movie, they're snaps.) As for deciding for which to go with, it's all personal preference. Personally I'm trying to go with movie accurate more than screen accurate--I want my outfit to look like it did in the movie with all the weird filters and all. But it's completely preferential as to which version you "should" go with. But I for one would not 100% trust the mannequin displays on accuracy in either way. Those are probably the stunt outfits.

I'm getting really frustrated with the whole katana business. I have yet to find a strap I really like, I feel like I recognize the kind of braided rope from somewhere but I can't place a name to it. I've basically given up on trying to find an accurate grip and all, just don't have the time/energy/money to even think about commissioning it right now.

Hey guys! I'm new here. :D This forum is helping me a lot, since I just started on my baby doll costume.

I'm going to be making the gun and katana sometime this week, but I looked all over for the art work patterns on both Babydolls weapons. I know the art book has it in there. The problem is that I don't have the art book, but I though you guys here can help me out with that.

I would be forever grateful! ^_^

Okay, I have another question :p Alright so does anyone have any good replica of Amber's, Sweet Pea's, or Blondie's shoes? I've been searching Google for like two hours and I can't find anything! Grr.. :p Please help.

I know what you mean. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out the same thing!

it looks like those suede braided belts from the 1970s

Hi,
I guess I don't have enough posts yet, so this might get duplicated whenever I reach 20+ posts...

I am making Babydoll's bling sparkly costume, and I will be using the Naturalizer Pixie shoes in grey suede:

You're lucky to have found a pair in your size, they don't make that shoe anymore. There's a cheap pair of 8.5's on ebay right now if that fits anyone.

Ugh yeah it's like one of those things where you know you've seen it a million times before in the past everywhere but just can't remember where. It reminds me of rope that I've seen hang off of bumper buoys but I'm sure that's not it. And most katanas I've seen for purchase with straps are leather or cord of some kind but nothing resembling it.

I'm antsy to post progress photos though I've got none lol. The katana is my single rogue element to this costume at this point. I have straight brown shoes that I'll be dyeing black in strategic areas. Also got my colt airsoft in the mail, a friend of mine is revamping the whole thing for me, though neither of us can find decent hi-res scans of the gun prints. I was planning on lazily grabbing the art book when I had the time, but omg when the hell did the price go up times TEN?! Absolutely unbelieveable! :angry

After seeing all their boots. They all look like the costuming department took boots and modified them by adding fabric, leather, buckles and what not....* Not sure if you saw them, but i got some pics of amber, sweet pea and rockets shoes.

I think they are MK 9s. Look at the protrusions above and below the eyes.

Hi guys, They are indeed Mark 9 Halcyon goggles here is a picture of the actual goggles used:

Sucker%2BPunch%2BBlondie%2Bgoggles.jpg

The actual model is called a "Mark 9 Rider" but it has been aged a lot from its original "out of the box" condition. Which is a little tricky as the painted surface is a thick powder coated finish. I know this because I work for the manufacturer (Halcyon) in England. Before you flame me for trying to generate sales from the thread, that's not my intention at all, just thought I'd give you guys some info. We have done goggles for loads of films, sometimes studios ask us to use a particular leather of finish, however I think in this occasion the ageing was done by their own props department. What we do, mainly for the steampunk community is provide raw frames on goggles, the goggles are solid brass and it's much easier to achieve an aged effect working from the bare metal. So if any of you guys want to get super close to the original look by ageing a bare set of frames let me know. I'd link our site and contact info, but I think it would be considered a tad naughty for a 1st time poster, so just google "Halcyon goggles" and you will find us (classicpartsltd) or PM me.

I was drafting the pattern for a Baby Doll skirt last night, and I realized I can't tell if there are supposed to be 9 or 10 sections at the bottom. Every picture seems to be at just the wrong angle for me to be able to acoount for all of them. Anybody have any suggestions?

I personally believe it's 10, but I'm not 100% on it.

Some friends and I are also working on costumes. I just got my shoes for Babydoll from Last Call.

They are supposed to be black, but they are kind of a blue-black. I need to do a few mods to make the two-tone around the edges stand out more, remove the extra stitching that isn't accurate, and stain the heels (they are darker irl than in the pic).

I have spent hours looking for a usable katana. I cannot find a black tsuka with a brown leather ito. I will probably buy a white handled one and paint it black. I have a couple of cheap katanas to play around with to figure out just how to re-color the rubbery grip. Very few places seem to sell brown leather ito, so I'm still looking for that too.

I read that they used a wakizashi blade with a katana handle because Emily Browning is so tiny. We looked at doing that, but since I'm about 5 inches taller than the actress, it looks silly on me. I'm actually looking at getting a longer handled katana (14 inches vs. the usual 11) so that the proportions look a little more accurate. The prop-makers in me and my husband like to be screen-accurate, but the costuming side of us wants it to look right. :)

As for the braided saya strap....it stirs a memory of something at my grandfather's stable, but I can't bring the memory, or the correct word, to the front of my mind. Something else to keep looking for.

Oh, and for all you Ambers asking about hair, trying looking at victory roll tutorials. Most concentrate on the rolls on the front of the head, but I remember seeing a few about how to roll the back in the same style as Amber's. Unfortunately I didn't bookmark the ones I used last summer when researching victory rolls. If I can find it again, I'll post it.

I don't have my costume at the moment and really don't remember, I think it has 10. But look at this photos of the statue, its pretty simple to understand it with them. It has 4 at the back and 4 at the front, but look at the seam that divides the back and the front parts. In that sector of the skirt, both front and back share ONE pleat. One on the left and other on the right. So they will be 10.

BTW, IMPORTANT for the ones who had pre-ordered bdoll's statue. My bfirend've just told me this: "Production samples of Baby Doll have arrived at the Cruel & Unusual offices. So she may indeed start shipping soon. "
****, I just can't wait for it to arrive.
