Superman crystal console

Not to sound mean or anything but can you post your pics on your own thread please since it is your work. Don't want to be taking credit for you're nice work.

Hello, I'm pretty new to this forum so I thought I'd better start the ball rolling. I have always been a masive Superman fan since I was a little boy and as long as I could remember I have always wanted Superman's 'Kryptonian memory crystals.' Have bought a few from Ebay but was never completely happy with the quality so I bought myself a little belt sander and bought some acrylic rod and went to work, after a lot of sanding, shaping and pollishing I now had my very own Superman crystals. I soon realised I would need some sort of display so I trawled the internet looking for a suitable display, couldn't find one so I decided to build my own and since I was building my own why not make it as close to the real thing as possible. One or two things to do before it is finished, as I still have to build a frame for the inside so I can attach my LED lamp to make the console and crystals glow but I hope you like progress so far. The first crystal in the picture I bought from Hydin quite a few years ago from one of his first crytal runs, quite a heavy crystal and an absoluitly fantastic piece (thanks Hydin) The rest I made my self from acrylic.

great work on the crystals. They look great!

Where did you buy the acrylic? I'm looking for a source for a Dr. Who related project.

Im sure if you shop around you will find what you are looking for. If you are doing any belt sanding I would reccomend cast acrylic, its so much better to work with than extruided.

thanks. I may have found a source. They have an octagon cast acrylic rod, 1 meter in length, and 50MM across... exactly the 'diameter' I need, but a lot longer. I may just get it, do several of the project I have in mind, and sell the rest in the junkyard. :D

This is very excellent work! I considered doing this project myself once but was stopped by the enormity of the task required to build the crystals! Well done!

How long and wide are the crystals

Hi there, the crystals vary in size and no two are alike. The longest crystal is 11 inches long and 30mm wide, hope that is of any use to you :)
