The Dark Crystal Mystic head 1:1 Replica

Well like I said I dont care if you wanna cast your screen used stuff go for it,But its proper etiquette not to do it someone else's thread.

Would be the same if you were posting something for sale and I came on your sale thread and posted my item that was the same as yours.....I'm sure youd be a little annoyed.

Not much to report I did a little more when I got the new clay in, its really soft so I'm having to let some of the oils dry out of it before I use it.The lower jaw needs to be extended a bit as well. This is far from being done I'm sure I'll re do certain section several more times before its all said and done.

I am going to open up a interest thread to see if there is enough interest to mold and make a few castings. I'll post the link here once I start the thread.

I just picked up a used but in excellent condition one off amazon. for 20.00

AUGHH!! I had to pay $200 for mine, back before the Internet when things were thought to be rare merely because there was no way of putting buyers and sellers in touch.

Nice sculpt - will be watching this with great interest.

Yeah I saw there were some for 200.00 and they appeared to be the same book I got, maybe they were hard cover and were a different printing or edition?

Mine is the first edition soft cover and was used but pleased to say this book is in excellent shape if I didnt know it was used I would say it was new.

This is so awesome :) anyone know if there are like scaled versions of the mystics or skeksis? My apartment is too small for that size :(

Hay jason, Do you think you will do a run on this one? and if so how much? and are you going to add the hair to him?

Thanks

So I'm finally getting to the point with the Mystic head where I can begin to tool in the wrinkles and swirls patterns in the skin. This is very tedious but fun, once I get it to where I want it I'll gently take a cotton swab and smooth out any ragged high spots with some rubbing alcohol. For now I'm just making the furrows and swirls and Ill go in and define them afterwards.

About 1/2 hour looks so much better in person I'm a lousy photographer,in the pic it looks like I just indented the clay but in actuality its all raised detail.

I would say it is not in the photography really. you are taking a 3D item and making it into a 2D format. one way to avoid that flattening of your work would be to take some video and wrap around the piece so we can see it the way you are. ;) other wise get two pics from just slightly different angles like about what the eyes see independently and then run it through some 3D software that makes one image that can be viewed with 3D glasses :D as for your photos they look fine to me. definitely looking awesome. I had to see if I could still do the chamberlains voice XD
