Progress update. Thought Id share here as I had some people ask about it.
Pictured here is the kit in all its glory. Also pictured is the Brass Name Plate. This is the castings I have made, Dave's look same, but I did not want to get all his all out as they are numbered and in tupperware boxes.

This was a very small exclusive run that is finishing now. You dont realize just how many parts actually make up this kit.
There are other kits out there, that have combined assemblies to save time, or maybe that is just how they got thier masters for whatever they are remolding. Many of the "From the Studio Kits" out there are just recasts of the ICONS or of the Pyro we sold so many years ago.

I posted to share and generate discussion. These castings were created from molds made by Mr Dave Jones, from ILM with one exception, the wings were originally in two parts each, like the hero, but were combined into one for ease of casting.

Is this the kit the Captain Cardboard kit is based off of? I have that kit and was just trying to figure out its origin.

HA!
No,....this is off a PRODUCTION made casting of an XWING.

Scott (AKA Capt CARDBOARD) made a studio scale Xwing many many many years ago. In fact, I provided him his R2 Strip. I think some of the saturn or phantom parts if I remember correctly. I think that was....2000? or 2001 when he made that kit?

The master have been bought and sold several times. In fact, I believe the Salzo V1, was basically a reworked Capt Cardboard kit. Mike would later pretty much replace everything on it in the follow on versions.

His kit was pretty close, but nothing was from production. It was off of real kits parts, and really good reference. Which is why the hull is too skinny and small. The wings are also a bit under sized. However, because of the history, and fondness everyone has for it, it is a highly sought after as anything else.

Most of the "Studio Scale" Xwings that have been out in the last decade and a half, are pretty much fan made with AMAZING reference. Few have production lineage. Its reare you get an entire kit. that is this close to a production piece.
