It would have moving parts. Just casting the shell wouldn't do you much good.

I'm saying just as a start, I think the best reference to use for building this would be the "Alethiometer creating the truth measure" featurette in the blu ray of golden compass

Sounds interesting, haven't seen the blu ray featurette.

Great video. But there is just so much engraving that I can't really see all of it, it would be hard to map out all those symbols from that video. If someone wants to try and map out the symbols in *2D* then I could see about transferring them to 3D. Otherwise, it's just too much for me right now with my other projects.

Does anyone have the PROPER Latin around the rim ? Someone said that certain phrases were wrong on the replicas.....haven't verified this.....
