Just finished this and really enjoyed it. A very different take on the theme. Interesting, multi-layered characters that you care about. The pacing is oddly timeless - it's so immersive that episodes seem to last hours, but without dragging. It manages to leave you feeling more unsettled by actually not delivering jump scares when it seems to be building to one. It's kind of dream-like experience which probably won't appeal to everyone.

I finished it a few weeks ago. I really liked it. Really cinematic execution, quality filmmaking.
I hate that Half in the Bag put out their review on it cuz it's gonna sound like I'm parroting them, but the main reason why I really liked it is because it was a complete story.
I'm really not a series person, just never got into them and the main reason is because they usually go on and on way too long after they ran out of steam. We started watching Designated Survivor with my gf and I kinda liked how it started then at the end of the 1st season it just started to drag on, the original concept was long gone and there were twists and drama for the sake of it thrown in just to keep up interest for a couple episodes then fade without any real impact. I started watching Altered Carbon which had everything going for me: I love Blade Runner, Deus Ex, Philip K Dick, had a great premise but after 3 or so episodes I already started to see stuff that were just created for drama's sake so that it can go on. Game of Thrones ran out of juice ages ago (so did the last couple books).
So it was really refreshing for me to see a series where there was a beginning, a buildup, middle, conflict, climax, resolution and end. I haven't enjoyed a series this much and found so satisfying since Band of Brothers (well, apart from Rick and Morty and Stranger Things).
So yea, was really happy with this one, deffos a rewatchable one and would recommend!

I loved it as well. My daughter had watched it and so on a sick day I started...watched it al in one sitting. I have never binged watched anything before but this caught me and would not let go.

I loved it and certainly did not see where a lot of it was going.
Though I did guess that the Bent Neck Woman was going to be Nell a bit before the part was actually shown.
I also liked how they didn't use many jump scares (and the ones they did do were freaking terrifying - you know the one). The ending felt kinda anticlimactic to me, as I expected it to go more horror, but still thoroughly enjoyed it. They left practically no questions unanswered.

I know what you mean, for me the turning point was the episode with Nell’s funeral, the one with the long takes. Once everyone was in the same place it moved on being a family drama than a spooky horror story but I was fine with it. There’s only so much real effect and reaction you can churn out from creepy figures appearing from the background.
Also agreed on jump scares, it was refreshing that it was more on tension, creep and unsettling atmosphere than “BOOOOO!”.

I loved it. I felt it was more sad than scary. I might need to rewatch it. Apparently, the Director put ghosts in almost every house scene, just out of focus and in the backgrounds. Check-out this article about it.

The Haunting of Hill House: All the Hidden Ghosts You Missed

Dang. Reading that article freaked me out. Some of them aren't as obvious, but others really should have been, especially considering that you're expecting spooky stuff. Which immediately brought my mind to "how much do our eyes pass over in real life", but I'm not going to entertain that thought for very long...

I agree. I think it also raises the production of the show in my mind. So very clever of the Director. As you mentioned, how many times do we see something but don't really see it. Chilling.
