Any One have any thoughts On this Sword?

I was thinking of getting one. They look nice
and Also it Is Considered A "real" Sword.
The only thing that seams to be missing is the
Gold fittings and Inscription on the Pummel.

Any one own one and can tell me how they Like it?

Thanks

She's a heavy beast.... too heavy...

but, and this is coming from a swordmaker, it's a great deal for the price point. I'd definitely get one of those before one of the stainless versions. Just MHO.

Thanks for the sound review ;) chris

Any one else? Would like to know others recommendations?
Is the UC version more or less a better one to get then this one?
May just end up getting both, but I like the idea of the Darksword being A functional Sword even though it is not as ornate at the UC. any one know how well the UC holds up to costuming or ruff handling?

Apparently the UC swords are full tang, not like this one, which appears to have a rat-tail tang. The UC Anduril is really heavy, though, more than twice as heavy as this version. It's also half as expensive, and a better looking sword.

In terms of prop accuracy, the UC is miles ahead of the Darksword version and I'd pick the UC in that regard. That Darksword looks absolutely horrendous in comparison with its fat blade, bloated crossguard, and myriad other inaccuracies.

Yeah, the UC is a stainless steel piece, but it's fine being carried around/ costumed with. Rough handling though won't fly with it (assuming by that you mean clanging it against things like a real sword) because of its construction.

If the UC are Full tang That is A big plus for me.

Did not realize the darksword is not a full tang as it has A Carbon steel blade.

I do not Plan on hacking things with the UC but Would still like
it to be strong if I swing it around and not flimsy. is the UC nice And Sturdy?

Thanks

IF the UC is A Full Tang
is there a way to replace the blade with A Carbon Steel blade?

Has any one done this?
Would be nice to replace the Stainless with One that
has the same shape and markings but in Carbon Steel
Can the UC be disassemble and reassembled?

Chris Fields you mentioned you are a Sword maker do you have the skills
to make A UC A battle ready Sword With A full tang?

I am kind of stuck in the middle of deciding between both versions.
The UC is amazingly accurate, but the DS has A CS blade.

Thanks

The Darksword is as full tang as you can get for Anduril. It's tang is more robust than the UC. Both swords use a screw on type design, which is about the only way to get the pommel on with the way it's shaped. The Darksword version may not be as accurate, but it is a overall more robust sword. The stainless blade in the UC is it's downfall to me. To change the blade out, you might as well get a custom blade fully made for the price you would pay, unless you can find another similar blade that would possibly fit or come close, any blade would have to be modified though.

The terms "full tang" and "battle ready" get thrown a lot when the majority of folks do not really know what that means... put the term "carbon steel" in that category as well.

If you want a more accurate show piece, get the UC, if you would rather have something more durable, but less accurate, go with darksword. If you want both, go custom. :)

Not sure where you are getting your information from, but they are about the same weight. The Darksword is actually a tad heavier, and has a more robust tang.

I think Jm419 is equating poor balance with weight when it comes to comparisons between the two versions.

And GMB, if you want a perfectly-accurate Anduril made out of the right materials... Peter Lyon did make 10 of them available to the public as part of Weta's Master Swordsmith's Collection. I've only seen two of their original owners part with them, but they are out there.

I was pretty sure that the Darksword had a much better tang then the UC as you said.

If there is A way to make A custom CS blade so that the UC Hilt can be used i would be for that. Would like the Hilt to be modified for A Full Tang.

The UC hilts are cast zinc alloy plated with nickel, I believe (well, with a leather-covered wooden grip in between crossguard and pommel). It'd be a waste to put all the effort required to remove the original UC blade without destroying the entire hilt and install a proper one.

If I cant have and all in one, then, Maybe I will just order both!! ;)

The UC for display, and the DS for play ;)

Thanks

I've got a Ka-bar knife here that's carbon steel, full-tang, and battle ready. :)

Oh, nice... and like I said, there are a few makers out there who can make a custom one, but your talking at least 10 x the cost of the UC or more, but they are worth every penny.

Yes, but like I said, if you are going to pay for a custom blade, might as well get the whole sword, as the majority of the cost is the blade. It be a shame to put a nice blade on a hilt with sub par materials.

It's actually quite simple to dismantle, just twist the pommel off and the blade slides out and that's it. Toughest part is breaking the lock tight bond if they even use one. (Sometimes they don't)

It would be tougher to retrofit the hilt to a custom blade, but not too hard. Neither would destroy the hilt unless you just didn't know what you were doing.
