The Robocop (Love) Thread

but lord, when they killed Murphy it scarred me for life. The violence of that scene scarred me as a young man.

Have you seen the uncut version?

By the way- you don't have to seek out the Criterion dvd to see the "ultra-violent" cut of Robocop; the Robocop Trilogy dvd boxset has the "violent" version (but no theatrical version). A pleasent surprise when I bought it as the Criterion disc was going for the same amount on ebay.

I was just looking at Robocop on DVD on amazon cheap, i was trying to find that two disc set that was mentioned in this thread.

Yeah, add me to the RoboCop fan club.

As an aside - before I found the RPF, I was keeping tabs on RoboCop costumes when they'd come up on eBay. With what I'm learning here, I'll *build* one when I want one!

I've loved this movie since I first watched it... at about 10ish? It was one of the films that I stayed up past my bedtime and snuck in viewings of. My mother would definitely have NOT been happy that I was watching either of the films at the young age that I did.

I, too, was traumatized by Murphy's murder (I still cry when I watch it), but my imagination was definitely fired by the smart, wicked humor of the piece.

I was 17 when it came out and it was the one and only R-rated film I "snuck" into (well more like I brazenly walked up and ask for one "adult" ticket to Robocop even though at 17 I looked 13 years old :lol).

You have to be 18 in Canada to watch an R-rated film no matter what. I got my ticket and went to the corresponding theater. The ticket taker asked me for I.D. :confused I told him I forgot to bring mine. :confused

The guy looked at me with a smirk, and told me to bring it next time. :rolleyes

After I walked out, I truly felt like I had watched an "R-rated" film! :wacko :eek

Nah it's just more wanton violence:

-Several more seconds of ED-209 shooting up Kinney.

-Extended scene of Murphy being blown away by Boddicker's gang (including his right arm being completely severed by a shotgun blast). This was done with a full scale animatronic figure of Peter Weller.

-Clarence Boddicker's death takes longer for him to keel over, and there is a lot more blood.

Say does anyone know if the Blu-ray release of Robocop is the theatrical version or the extended violence version?
