The World's End - Gary King costume. Sources, images, ideas?

I found a black trench coat from the local Goodwill for $12 and augmented it as best I could. I still need the silver buttons and the belt system in the back. I really wanted to use the German coat, but I won't pay over $100 just to ship it to the USA.

Shodanmark your coat looks great. Did you have any specific techniques for dying a trench coat? Did you run into any major problems?

I used fabric softener as it definitely needed it, then dropped it in a a bucket with salt and liquid black RIT Dye for about 45 minutes. Tbh it could use another dye which I'll probably get around to soon.

Cheers...

Thank you so much to everyone who's posting on this- I've been (and still am!) working on a Gary King cosplay, and these pages have been extremely useful! But, does anyone know whether his SoM shirt is short sleeved or long sleeved? I always assumed short but I've heard differently? I assumed it was a short sleeved shirt with fingerless gloves, or short sleeved with that button up shirt acting as the gloves. Either way is fine, as I've found both long and short ones on eBay:

short: SISTERS OF MERCY 1984 TSHIRT MERCIFUL RELEASE the mission bauhaus cure goth cd | eBay

long: THE SISTERS OF MERCY 1984 LONG SLEEVED SHIRT cure mission tshirt ALL SIZES | eBay

Does anyone know? Thanks :)

Seems like there are a lot of places selling those German Army coats.

I just got the Blu-Ray of The World's End yesterday. Spotted the hospital bracelet, but I haven't got a screen capture yet.

One thing I did notice is that older Gary is definitely wearing Levis - you can see the red Levi's logo and a standard brown size patch pretty clearly in the special features documentary, when at one point there's a rear view of Simon Pegg as he flips up his coat. Now here's an interesting thing - there are only three styles of Levis selling at Levi's UK that are black with a brown size patch: One is Levi's 501s, but at 17" the leg opening is definitely too wide. another is Levi's 506s in the color 'Moonshine'. However, 506s have a 17.5" opening, which also seems too wide to me. The other is Levi's 504 in the color 'Pistola' - these have a 15.75 leg opening, which seems about right.

Also, as an interesting little tidbit, the makers of the Blu-Ray mention the fact that all of the band names that the characters make up as a running joke have been made into T-shirts by fans. Kind of a shout-out to those of us who are World's End geeks.

Are there any sellers of the German coats that aren't charging a fortune for shipping?

SO after watching the Blu-ray I finally noticed that Gary's shirt actually does say 1985 on it. Has anyone else spotted this? Makes me wonder if he is wearing a shirt with a black long sleeve underneath. Any thoughts?

I was about to mention that I noticed this yesterday at the screening! Were there any pictures that had the shirt without the date on? I've bought the Redbubble one now without the date but wanted to be accurate! And I'm not sure about shirt length, although Simon Pegg did tweet a picture of himself recently of him wearing a SoM shirt, that was short sleeved and had the date, if that means anything...?

Good catch! My only comment is this - if he's wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt under this, he must have been REALLY hot under the stage lights. This makes me doubt that he was wearing two T-shirts. My gut feeling is that the wardrobe department somehow got hold of a SOM 1985 long-sleeved T-shirt with thumb-holes.

Personally, I'm going with what I've already got (SOM long-sleeved T-shirt without the date), but for those of us who are looking for perfection, this information is essential.
