those night vision goggles from jurassic park

Judging by the pics above I'm thinking that the lenses were something created by the prop dept., they just look too wonky to be real lenses, I'm not even they're symmetrical or even identical between the left and right lens.

Got me thinking that it seems to be the same thing that was used on the Galaxy Quest binocular part shown in this thread:

A electric camera lens with the little motor at the side..

Maybe you guys /girls has already discussing this possibility?

Not to my knowledge, I think the discussion has been focused on the lenses themselves, not the housing and motorized components behind them.

You might be on the right track. There were several film cameras around that time with zooming lenses like that. Might be worth looking into. I wonder if there's a camera database by year? I would be worried that you won't be able to find info on older stuff because of all the new.

New guy here (been lurking awhile), Thought I would add my two cents. The indexing on the the lenses makes me think of diopters. Either from movie cameras, or like the ones used on stereo microscopes. Might also explain the strange shape, the ends of the tubes are rounded so the rubber eye cups (removed on the prop) can be added. Worst case gives you another word to add to your image search.

At least not to the degree of accuracy that's well ingrained in this place. There's enough material to build the main body and to make close-enough lenses that can eventually be swapped out should the real ones be identified.

So, since it will likely never be perfect, how would everyone prefer these, as close as possible to the screen used, or idealized to look good?

I'm a fan of making them look good on their own. For example, I would make the yellow parts symetrical, and make the switches on the sides fit more closely to the body. What do you guys think?

I would say as screen accurate as possible, but making modifications when the exact pieces can't be identified/used. This would be such an awesome piece to have in a collection, it's amazing these haven't been made yet.

Does anyone know where these goggles are located in Islands of Adventure? I'm planning a trip there around the end of october and would like to be able to get some better pics.

So, I was watching JP the other night, paying special attention to the night vision scene. As Tim takes them off too look for the goat, we can see a reflection, and the lenses look flat to me, which leads me to think they're a custom fabrication. Of course they could just be a special lens with a filter or something on the front, but I doubt we'll ever know.
Also,

Bump.

Sorry, I was there last October, and don't remember seeing them. But I also didn't check out the whole visitor's center.

They should still be there.
Universals Prop department reports them as checked out still.

The whole goggle rig is a custom fabrication. The lenses cannot be ID'd as regular lenses (trust me, I've checked worldwide with camera and lense professionals).
Static goggles with motorized ake lenses with the green lighting.

We have members here with them molded up.....we just need to get them to finish them and get an interest list together. I'm 99% sure it will be a HUGE list should it ever happen.
