Tomenosuke BR blaster versions- What are the differences?

A lot of great reading. Thanks.

Yeah…I really like my Tomy, but I’ve always thought the original had the bluing (and wondered why the Tomy didn’t!) and then I saw this pic on Pinterest the other day and it got me thinking…I need a more accurate blaster!

Maybe I just blue the one I got, and get one of those fancy metal replacement barrels while I’m at it?!
Or buy a second one and blue the second one, that way you have two cool guns with slightly different looks. ;)

or buy half a dozen…

Hey guys!

Does the 2049 “movie prop” version have the correct blued barrel?

Safe to buy on eBay from Japan? Currently they are $1200 or so.

Or is it still the “HCG Exclusive” (1/150)…?
Those seem to be priced around $3000?

Trying to get a blaster that’s the right color. :)

Thanks!
The 2049 has a matte finish as do all the other current Tomenosukes with the exception of the HCG exclusive.

Ok…I have the “Pro Ultimate Edition” from 2016
**haha…gotta love these names of each edition

Perhaps I’ll hunt for the HCG exclusive 150 made

I actually have all the Tomenosuke variants released since 2016 except the $3000 Harrison Ford Signature Edition. I also have an OffWorld Inc model and two Elfin Knights resin models, one boxed and the other on display in the Schneider Holster.

I think that will likely be it for my collection of those. I’ll take some pics at some point. My next project might be making cases for them all.

I like the ladies. I don't say this to men very often other than my son.

I love you. (y)

I love Rich. I owned two of his blasters. Awesome, but not as good as Tomenosuke. His grips were too small for one thing. Anyway Rich has been insisting that for years and I have no idea why. There is one picture where the light is hitting the blaster and it looks like his blasters. Basically a silver finish. He was very happy after years of insisting it was not blued to find this pic, but it's the light as the other ten million pictures and the film itself shows it's blued. Rich has seen the pics below as well. People have discussed this with him at length.

Here is the blaster on the first day of filming compared to it now. The bottom two show it on first day of filming on both sides. If someone can not see the blue finish I really don't know what to say. When these pics came out I figured that was the end of it, but even after seeing these Rich still insisted that the blaster looked like his, his which could not be blued BTW.

From Tom Southwell' Q&A at Propsummit on Monday, 1st of April 2013 - 3:59PM

"Could THIS be the photo you saw?"

"This is a slide I took in 1981 of the first blaster delivered as I discussed earlier (there were probably more than one made).
I need a slide scanner to properly dig out the details in the plate.
This exposure is a bit dark
(to see the neat red lights that are switched on), however I can see there still good detail that could be
brought out (and the table will burn out).
These photos were taken with available light as snap shots (no tripod or photo lights)
I even got noir blinds from an Art Department window."

(The bold was added by me to make a point)
Many saw that the Steyr wasn't blued compared to the barrel. Or, to be more precise; the bluing was gone when that weapon (and only one as we know now) was delivered to the studio.
We cannot make a definite statement looking at those 2 pictures that Tom took at the time: too dark!

No steel firearms are ever delivered stripped of blueing (or other protective coatings) especially to a wet rainy set. A stripped carbon steel gun, also known as "In the white", would be splotchy and spotted with dark brown and orange rust spots after about 4 hours. Would look absolutely abysmal. This isn't done on professional movie sets.

I often wondered why the real gun has two triggers, but still don't know.
The first trigger ‘sets’ the firing pin so the second trigger only requires the very lightest touch to fire the gun. Having double set triggers means the gun isn’t pulled off target by the act of firing.

I always figured it was something like that, its nice to finally know.

But then I have to ask, what is the purpose of the double trigger in the balde runner universe?

Maybe like pulling the hammer back on a revolver?

or reloading?

Is there a real-life firearm that has this function?

In Universe I believe the front trigger fires the magazine rounds and the rear trigger fires the cylinder rounds.

The mechanism is called noitcif ecneics.

In my mind there is a slot in the barrel so when you pull the bolt lever back it loads a "missile bullet" from the magazine into the barrel.

Here are a few pics of the 2049 model...is this top receiver not blued?

The seller calls it Blade Runner 2049 Tomenosuke Blaster 1/1 Scale Movie Prop Completed Model HCG

But I thought there were only 100 of the HCG Blaster Pro's that had the accurate blued receiver?

But it sounds like the "2049 HCG" had only 150 made?

Is everybody throwing around this "HCG" term to make a lesser blaster sound better?

I just want a blaster with the blued top and I don't want to do it myself...and I don't want to pay $4000

:)

They may just be adding HCG to the title because they bought it from Hollywood Collectibles Group. Some people add that in title just for searching purposes.

Remember, HCG was the retailer for these in the US, so to many, these are all “HCG Tomenosuke”, even though there was an official HCG edition.

I’m trying to recall all of these versions as I held them all at one point, but they all blend together at this point, lol.

I do know that the one that was promoted as “blued”, was more like a paint or coating. It didn’t look or feel like real blued steel to me. And when you say you felt the Tomenosuke were too much one color, and you were looking for the blued for contrast, I feel the blued looked almost black, and that made the thing look even more one color, as the other parts are black too.

You can see the difference here…

The left is the matte coloring, and the right is the blued. The blued looks very much more one color.
