TriGun/Vash revolver, machined aluminum

The version seen in the show? I'm sorry, I don't quite follow, I just posted 3 screenshots from the show. I don't think very many liberties were taken, there were a couple details I forgot to add :p, but overall:

The gun from the screenshot with my templates over it

Maybe Poseidon got to take "creative liberties". Which version/model/artist's sketch/show are you comparing my templates to?

Using stills from the show is notoriously unreliable, since the gun is drawn differently for every scene that it's in. Poseidon took liberties with several design factors, but from a scale perspective, that is, the size of features in relation to eachother is much more balanced and accurate in their design.

Yours has features that arn't there in the anime version (in any scene) so I assumed you took liberties. The artbook scan is the most reliable since it's the main design refrence that the gun was drawn from for all the shots it's in in the anime.

I did up a quick comparison. One of the big issues is the size of the cylinder on yours in relation to the frame. It's really tiny. The shape of the grip is also really rough. I think if you refined these details you'd have a really nice gun, but the proportions as it stands stick out like a sore thumb when I look at it.

I've always been partial to the manga gun since it was built as a conversion kit.

And it's loads of fun to shoot! :)

These all look great, I'm actually going to have a crack at the version from the new movie, Badlands Rumble, later this year:

Being a little hard on these guys aren't you spike?
Personally I think when it comes to anime, there are no 100% accurate ref pics. weapons are usually slightly different in every scene and drawings in books are always slightly different from the ones in the show. So which is the most accurate? :lol I think as long as it holds the overall look then its accurate enough since there is never a 100% definitive source. I think stills form the show would be the best reference. Like any other movie prop, would you rather use screencaps from the movie or line drawings in a book?
\Kick @$$ gun btw!

Yea the movie version is a cool design, if you're planning to do one you might want to check out this guy's build. May give you some help.

Trigun was made in 1998 when the primary medium for animation was hand drawn cel artwork. The accuracy of the gun in any given scene relies solely on how well the animator was drawing the gun that day. The artbook, on the other hand, was penned by the creator and artist of the manga, Yasuhiro Nightow. Therefore, the artbook more accurately represents his vision of how the gun should look. Anime props can't be compared to film props which have a much higher consistency rate shot-to-shot, even taking stunt weapons into account.

Hypercats and I discussed this in more detail via PM, but as I told him then, the build quality of his gun was excellent. I see no problem in striving for a greater level of accuracy.

HI all, I have been reading all the posts regarding Trigun & Vash's revolver. I have been planning to get a Vash the Stampede costume ready for Animu 2011 in November 2011. I am from a small island ( Mauritius ) and we dont get those big conventions you have over the atlantic. Anyway. I started working on my project and having no models, I found a pepakura file ( more a pdf one ) with pictures, and no explanation whatsoever. I made one and now I am working on a more solid replica. I've used trunking and bits & bobs lying around the house. The question is I have more or less finish the big works and need to to the paint job. The handgrip is made of paper filled with hotglue with a layer of fiberglass ( Pic 4 ).
How should I proceed ?
1. Painting it black then cover it with another layer of fiberglass
2. another layer of figerglass then paint it
3. paint it in black then a lyer of sealer ( thinking about gesso but not sure)

Your ideas / experience would be much appreciated.

A few pics to have an idea what I am talking about
