So far the best Cosmo Dragoon is an exclusive
made in Japan:

The one pictured above (in a previous post) is a
toy made by Taito and it is too small. Here is another toy version that was
made by the French, it is also lacking (and it goes for a $1000+ on e-bay):

There is one garage kit floating around but it
is terrible. Looks like a 4th grader cast it in a fifth generation mold without
pressure (air holes abound) with flashing as thick as your arm. It also waaaayyy
to small. Here is a pic of the kit:
Here is a pic that compares the mass market
versions (even though the best one only had 500 made, was made out of metal,
and only available in Japan);
The very bottom is the Taito version, big one in the middle is the exclusive metal version (see how it is a tad larger), and then the top of course are the crappy toys. All the small ones are from gashapon. There have been a number of one offs made by folks over the years (I'll post some in the next post). I have even made one. I have been working on the message capsule from Yamato but would love to revisit this project now that I can cast in metal. It would be great to get correctly scaled parts and be able to cast them in metal in order to make this a fantastic prop/piece of art!

Hope some this shows the amount of interest in the This guy and the need for a really fantastic version. Most people get the cylinder wrong, or the hammer, or the scale.

This one is mine that I kit bashed back in the 90's:Anyway, I'm sorry if I hijacked the thread for a minute. I just love this prop and am happy to educate/show off a little bit of accrued knowledge. If you do decide to do this model please include me in the process, I have tons of reference data along with some canon suggestions (like detail for the powder horn from Adieu, Cosmo Bullet from Harlock Saga, and the Mazone detector from Space Pirate). Thanks for doing what you do.

The Astro Automatic has a few less fans overall. It is called that by the Star Blazer fans to distinguish it from Harlock's gun. In SBY it is also called the Cosmo Gun. The only kit ever made of it that was any good was by Liberty Planet . Here is a pic: Almost all the kits out there are knock offs of this one. The Twilight Arms guys did one but I think it is just a painted version of the crappy garage kit:

Sorry for the late response. Work and a toddler keep me quite busy. Of course I am in! I have many suggestions that would help make this the perfect version. We can put all other contenders to shame. What do you suggest is the best way to get folks in on this? Do you want to put up a thread for a project run and see how many are takers? Let me know what I need to do to help (though I have been a member for quite some time I am still pretty new to the whole thing). Thanks again and I hope we can make this work.

I'll take a look at what I have. There are 2 versions (one with a skull shaped hand guard and one with a slick hand guard). I have many Harlock and 999 art books. The Taito toy version is pretty good though, again it is a little too small.
