UNTHINKABLE movie with Samuel Jackson

I think Jim Carrey can do more than one role provided its steering away from the comedy side of things and does a serious role Like Number 23, Eternal sunshine, truman show and man on the moon

The same can be said for most of the comedic actors though. Like Sandler. He is the same in all his movies then he does punch drunk love and reign over me and shows he can have a serious side.

Truman show is not a serious role. But i had forgot about Man on the moon which is good but it still has Carreys Rubbery body acting.

when jim carrey is funny. he is not. when he does serious stuff, i could live with or with out it. man on the moon is probably my favorite.

Ok I am with Moocriket on the Edward Norton point of view. I think he is an incredible actor, he is actually my favorite. Yeah Samuel L. yells every line, but hey thats what we love about him. Keanu says whoa more than Joey Lawrence from the show Blossom. But hey he pulled off The Matrix. I think the worst actor in Hollywood may just be Nicholas Cage, I mean come on he is the exact same in every movie. Not to say all of his movies are bad of course. Raising Arizona was incredible. But what does my opinion matter. Look at the acting of the guy I have for my avatar.:lol I still love you captain Kirk.:love

I agree to disagree about the Truman Show. Its worth watching again.
I think he won a golden globe too for this, but i could be wrong.

Many older flicks I like him in but now Al Pachino often plays an over the top caricature of Al Pachino.

Jim Carrey was on my do not watch list for a long time after I saw "Rubberface". He did get better, but I consider him a comedian who was in some movies rather than an actor. I think he could be better if he didn't try so hard. I don't think we have seen the full potential of Will Smith either. Just my opinion.

Wow... this thread totaly got derailed.

Going back to Unthinkable... I just watched it and honestly... it just seemed like propoganda-filled crap to me. Was not impressed. Was not entertained. This was essentially a torture porn movie, no different than Saw or Hostel with lots of Anti-American political overtones that have become so popular since the 70s. Yawn... just don't care any more. While I am not a fan of Samuel Jackson, he did do a fairly decent acting job in this one. Too bad it was such a stinker of a movie.

Oh, and I think Brad Pitt is AWESOME! No, seriously... I do. Maybe not the most talented or diverse actor out there, but at least for me, he rarely fails to entertain.

Talking comedians as actors, I loathe Robin Williams in comedy but love him in dramas.

Carrey has some chops if given the chance. Man on the Moon and The Majestic.

As far as Sam Jackson - one note actor, but good at it. It's kind of like ACDC, a couple of chords but good at them.

Nick Cage, I always catch the "acting" and it pulls me out of the film.

There are very few actors who are as painful to watch and Nicholas Cage trying to do... well, anything. His neurotic nerd got old very fast and now that he is trying for more heroic roles... well, he is just laughable. I can't take him serious for a second.

Going back to Unthinkable... I can see what you mean Art. I dont watch many movies like that so I didn't really feel over saturated with it in this one.
I cant stand torture porn/ gore porn (will never watch any of the saw movies) parts of this were pretty nasty, it wasn't *overly* gruesome. It seemed like they left a lot of it up the imagination of the viewer (seeing that was H doing something in his mouth with a dental drill, but not showing it, etc)

I thought about what I would do if I was in Trinity's place (the decision at the end)
I think, "what if my kids were in the blast zone?" then I think "why would it only matter if it were my kids? What about the newborns in the hospitals?" Do the needs (or life) of the many really outweigh the needs (life) of the few? I donno.

Maybe the real lesson is to be thankful for not having to make those kinds of decisions.

I read about the end of the extend version, Im not sure what I would have thought about that.

Jim Carrey is also one actor who can't act more than one role, I have yet not seen "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" which i have heard is diffrent.

I started discovering that Good actors and Bad actors existed when i happen to see "Being There" with Peter Sellers, I had previesly only seen him in Pink Panther movies.
I also have remember discovering Alec Guinness as an Great actor by seeing the movie Barnacle Bill (1957 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I loved "Being There"....Great movie..

Good points. I guess putting people in morally compromising positions makes for interesting storytelling, but it seems to me that this is done all too often and is almost a crutch for movie makers to rely on instead of building drama and suspense without constantly putting people in nearly impossible positions in which they must compromise their most deeply held beliefs in order to achieve their goals. I am by no means a conspiracy theorist, but I am very sensitive to the seemingly constant press to shed your beliefs and inhibitions because they are what are keeping you from achieving your goals and I see that as a common theme in a lot of movies. It feels like the underlying message is one of anarchy in which you should not feel constrained by anything if it lies in the way of what you want.

Now I have to go read what the extended ending was all about!
