Hello mods

I have a seen an enormous explosion on new accounts/ users lately...
While it is generally a great thing to expand our community and give new talents a platform, there´s also the risk to have "bad apples" in the mix.

While there´s not much you can do about the registration process, instead of running all members through an AC and maybe giving you moderators their real names and adresses (hey, that´d be an option to avoid sockpuppet-accounts ;)!), we COULD check existing accounts from time to time.

How about a frequent check of all "inactive" accounts, where a member didn´t post for -lets say- more than a year!? IF he´s still interested in being part of this community, he has to reply to your mail, otherwise the account will be deleted.

This way we could get rid off people, who don´t contribute anything.

Still no idea how to handle all the members, who basically only joined to SELL (and there are PLENTY IMHO). A royal PITA and the JY is swamped with these :unsure

Markus,

We dont' worry too much about inactive accounts because, well, they aren't doing anything. It is rare to see an inactive account become active and suddenly start causing trouble. It is more often the people who make exactly 20 posts and on their 45th day here immediately start selling.

Questionable sellers have long been the largest segment of members to generate issue on the site. We have plans in place, immediately following our upgrade, that is likely to eliminate some of those sellers and to give us a bit more leverage. It is going to be controversial and some people aren't going to like it (there will be much complaining from the typical crowd), but we feel that it will be a good move, that will help to better protect our members from the shadiest of sellers.

Any insight as to what that may be?
