Warp core replica

Well I'm thinking of something that will fit into a regular ceiling height room of 8-9 ft.
So obviously a toned down version. What could I use to build the main "basin" and the coils? And how to do the lights? Really anything would be helpful.

Could you make elaborate on the bowl suggestion. I can't picture it- whay exactly do you mean?
thanks

Perhaps you could start with a rain barrel? Most are plastic so it will be easy to cut in ports and attach other pieces. A quick Google shows 50-60 gallon barrels going for about $130 give or take $20. You might try CraigsList and see if you can find one second hand for less. Check after holiday sales for less expensive lightning rigs. Obviously Christmas is big one, but there is also a lot of "lawn decor" for Halloween. You might want to get a smoke machine for core breeches (to go along with the door and Jordi-tuck-and-roll). You might experiment with stacking plastic bowls top-to-top and bottom-to-bottom in order to make the column that goes through the core. That might look like crap, or it might work with some decent lighting. Just a make a foot or two worth and see how it looks.[/QUOTE]

What is the light cycling device? I don't know what you mean.

How about using a Christmas light-cycling device as a controller for theWarp Core. Build it in quarter-round for the corner of the room, less obtrusive that way. I have always wanted to do this, but do not have any room for it.
Good luck

I always vastly preferred the look of refit enterprise's warp core, with the swirling twinkling light effect, it really looked like vast energies were being created and controlled within it.

The 1701-D and E, Defiant etc. were all very disappointing IMO with their florescent-neon strobing light.

With Voyager it was nice to see that they went back and duplicated the refits core design.

They want how much for these 55 gallon plastic drums?

Geeze we get several materials in blue poly drums very much like what were used for cargo containers in TNG and DS9 and when we empty them anyone can take them home.

Hmm...I looked at rain barrels and drums online but they are all tall and thin so i'm not sure how they could work. Maybe i'm looking at the wrong thing?

Looks to me the hardest part would be the translucent neon "encasement" thingies, the rest dosen't look too hard just a lot of time and carpentry skills. A good sign company could make the neon using drawings and specs you provide and the proper transformers and chaser bits as well. You will be spending quite a bit on this project though, even a short version.
