William "Bill the Butcher" Cutting

Nevermind then, forget I posted it.
Looks like bad web design to me, and it might be perfect. The rest of their stuff is beautiful. I'm not buying a $1000 hat, just thought it could be useful.
Laffo.

Don't know how much you want to spend but from memory I think Bill wears a slim lace up boot. Not as wide as a Brogan. I think they have a pretty good heal on them and the square toe.

Missouri Shoe and Boot makes some of the best Civil War shoes around. I would go with the "DON" or the "CV-9".

You might be able to find a cheaper shoe but these are the real deal.

Hope this helps.

Taking a step back...what were they thinking with those hats? Was there a contest for who could wear the tallest?

Scott

haha 100% 200XXX hand brushed beaver

but anyways

i dont think the toe on the boot is squared but it could be a weird angle the camera is at i cant find any high rez photos of them all the photos are of him in his Bowery Boys costume and not the street fight costume

Pretty much every shoe was square toed during that time period. If you are doing the opening scene version then there is the great shot of him coming out of the door and stomping his feet. There is a bit of snow on his shoes but you can see it is square. I just watched it on youtube and the shoes I showed are correct with the leggings over them.

Well, I know I'm tall and skinny enough for it. Plus, I was planning on custom-making pretty much everything. That's where the fun is, right?

I actually have my heart set on the more aristocratic costume he wears throughout most of the movie:

I figure I need to find patterns for an Edwardian shirt, a double-breasted vest, a frock coat, and some generic mid-1800s trousers. I'm not in this game for 100% accuracy, I just want to make a unique and impressive Halloween costume!

Mostly, I'm curious about the contact and the hat. Did you make them yourself? I know Baron Hats makes a Butcher hat, but I'd rather improvise my own, since I'm not filled with cash.

Bumping this thread, did you ever end up making this costume? I am in the process of working on this exact costume but my current problem is trying to track down the tartan/plaid for the pants. I am not looking for exact but something similar.

I kind of lost steam on it, to be honest. If you're looking for something similar-but-not-exact, you could try searching for MacLeod tartan fabric:

Did you ever find a suitable fabric for the waistcoat?

Weird, I never did get a notification on a reply to this topic. Anyway, I am in the same position as I haven't had time to work on this lately. That isn't a bad tartan but I think what I am planning on using eventually is the Thomson camel tartan.

I search high and low for fabrics similar to the waistcoat and emailed A LOT of people with not a lot of good news. I think what I was going to do is sew the red and gold silk back to back and then use that to make the vest and then either sew (which would be insane) or paint the pattern on.

Unfortunately I will not be finishing it for this Halloween but probably doing his fighter gear but I still want to make this outfit.

Ooh, not a bad choice. I perceived it as a yellow base, but it certainly looks more washed-out than that on film, and the camel works well.

I've actually shifted gears to this earlier outfit:

Which means I need to find:
-Pants fabric - maroon with gold/tan pinstripes
-Waistcoat fabric - a very odd shiny fabric in green/brown/orange plaid
-Frock coat fabric - chocolate brown suiting, can't be too hard

....Any ideas on the first two?

You have any more photos of that outfit, I might be able to find something for you, at least for the pants. I wonder if that waistcoat is another silk based pattern.

I came up with this costume last year. All I'm missing is the Belt, which I am hoping to get custom made. IF anyone has any suggestions on to where I could get something like his belt made, let me know. Thanks!

I was wondering if there any good reference photos of the eye? Or just the stock photo.
I really want to make one.

This is &?%$&?% amazing!!! WOW! Daniel Day Lewis is my favorite actor and Bill the Butcher is an incredible role. You look the part 100% keep the good work, this seriously rocks! Can't wait to see your project completed!

Keep up the good work! :D

Sorry guys. I've had MANY people emailing me regarding my costume and my Bill the Butcher contacts. I used the exact pic that you are all posting on here, then contacted a special effects company to make me the contacts. They weren't cheap, but since my costume looks so good, I didn't want to cheap out on the eyes.

Most of the costume had to be custom made, to include the pants, shirt, belt, knives, sash, trench coat and leather skull cap. My vest is actually Dandiel Day-Lewis's vest from the last fight scene, top hat from a replica prop company, boot spats from horse riding site, boots from eBay. Plus, the various types of make-up for scars and such.

Hey guys! I'm new at this site, and I know the thread is a bit old, but I made a bill the butcher costume, mostly from scratch so I figured I'd post it. Hope you like it!
