YAFF - Yet Another 5 Footer Falcon Build

Love how you are recreating the Falcon. The inner structure is genius. Very inspiring to watch. Have you begun to offer the 3d files ? Im looking to get a 3d printer just to start this project. :)

I'm thinking of starting a new post just to do with the files and printing, but in the interim - here goes

The documentation is still a bit of a WIP, so flick me a message if there are any questions - documents will update over time.

This is the main drive folder as well

for those with Bambu Printers - there are a few 3MF project files, I'm still finishing off some more for the frame, but there is a full set for the docking tubes

I would suggest doing the cockpit if you haven't already, then the docking tubes and rings - I'm still finalizing a few things with the jaws and the frame is subject to change over time (the printed parts anyway)

Keep in mind this entire project is still in development - so there is still 8 months or so to go (Hopefully)
Anyway - have fun

Fantastic !!! Thank you for all your hard work on this. Very excited to start this up.

Just an FYI, that URL has a Facebook preface. I goes to Facebook first, then tries to redirect to the google drive.

This build is looking quite good though. Very curious to see how the hull domes are going to work out.
Thanks for that - I have fixed the links now.

I am also pretty curious as to how I am going to implement the domes ;) - I do have a few ideas up my sleeve - so the first quarter is going to be interesting.

Still not as good as doing one old school like yourself - just sticking to my strengths ;)

Great job on the quad gun. Rather unique Falcon low profile mounting design using a horizontal stanchion. Has the ability to elevate 180 degrees & barrel roll 360 degrees without the top turret rotating. Love the concave window permits elevation without the rear end of the gun causing interference when covering the rear. Can not think of this type of design used on any aircraft top or bottom enclosed position.

A better version of the Quad gun, and a reworked Turret based on Feedback from Stuart Brown, (my gun mount was a little/lot too big)

This one has a swappable mount - and uses a couple of small rubber O-rings on the Gun 'Axle' to provide friction. works really well, and no more 22.5 degree jumps as in my old design.
I still haven't tidied up the print much, so ignore the roughness underneath.

Starting to do some test prints for the actual disc - and how it will slot together - hoping to get the entire port front uppers at least done over the weekend, then I can mount the radar dish ;) - lots of fun times ahead.
Printed standing on the edges so it minimizes layer lines - which can be quite nasty on shallow curves

Cheers guys, glad you are getting some enjoyment out of my ramblings - Not quite complete deck section, but worth throwing a picture up. Hoping to have it finished by the weekend, as am taking the first drop of parts off for Priming next week (2k epoxy primer - which should help with any visible layer lines)

I just returned to this thread to ask whether it may be possible to remove the greeblies for better and easier sanding of the huge flat areas, and then I went back to the first page and read that you are printing on a Prusa MK3 and here I am, quietly sobbing away because of the beauty of those prints and looking at my large Neptune3 Max, thinking about whether or not size really matters ...
