1/24 B-Wing kit modifications

Thanks guy, I was looking on ebay for the panavise but they all just ship to the US. :unsure Found a smaller one though that might work, fortunately it´s not too expensive but it´s not the mount type I´d prefer.

No lighting for the cockpit intended, I have no clue of lighting yet and the engines are complicated enough, don´t want to mess around with FO. :confused Also, I don´t think the ILM model´s cockpit was lit.

Next update. The chin guns provided in the kit are... umm...a "bad joke". I have no idea why Alfred Wong seems to have ignored almost every reference pic when doing those masters. There´s plenty of pics of the chin guns...but still they´re nothing as they should be. Sorry for the rant, but I´m getting tired of having to modify every part to make it look somewhat like it should. :angry

Anyway...new chin guns made from 3, 4 and 5mm diameter brass tubing, cut with a saw and my dremel:

Some more, along with a pic to show that there´s plenty of reference on those guns...

Also, why is the cutout in the cockpit cone´s nose so completely different from the filming model??? I´m afraid this is something I can´t fix easily so it will have to stay.

If you want to, you can buy the panavise that you want and just get it shipped to my house. If you pay the difference in the shipping, I'm sure that Robert or Jeff will have no problem with including it with the shipment of your replacement parts.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the offer, but I´m currently short of cash, and I´d need mounts for the B-Wing, 1/24 A-Wing, V3 X- and 2 SS Y-Wings...bit too much for now.

One ot he ebay sellers that does pana stuff agreed to sell to me in the UK as I got so much stuff last time, I'm sure I could reorder with him when it gets closer to the time that you need them, I need some too so it could work out fine?

A tiny update just to prevent this thread from vanishing...maybe more of a preview of what´s to come in a couple weeks: I received some PE parts which a very kind member of SSM made for me from some vector files a created. It´s the vents on the engine housing. I´ll have to build a box which the PE parts sit on, along with some detailing (the 3 small PE parts are for the box´s back side). Maybe I´ll take it a bit further than the filming model and add some kind of fans or piping inside the box which will be visible through the PE parts. After all, it´s bigger than SS, so it needs more detail. ;)

Guy, one of the two PE "sprues" is yours. Hope you like it.

Cool. Will these be available to us 'regular guys'? :)

I´ll be happy to provide the vector graphics if you can make PE parts yourself or know someone who can do the job for you, but my parts were made by a private person, not a company, so they are not for sale. Also, I have neither the time nor interest in selling these. All the modifications done are just for my own build.

Just got back from my vacation, thanks for doing them bud I'll be in tough this week.

Thanks. I was just told the origin of those parts on the filming miniature and found some pics of this part, my interpretation is not too far off but not perfect either, also I think they cut the ends off those parts on the B-Wing filming miniature as the front and rear edges of the original part seem to be beveled or rounded, but not on the B-Wing.

Looks much better than the kit´s interpretation of this part though IMO.

Long weekend, got some work done. Built the boxes under the PE parts and detailed the insides. Unfortunately the two-component epoxy glue obscured the three PE detail parts on the back slightly.
Also got some priming done, (re-)drilled all rivet holes and got the main wing almost finished. Also started on the master for the secondary guns´ machinery. Not perfect, but so much closer to the filming model than the kit´s parts.
