let me know when you get the green light to post those pics.

Quick question for you owners of the authentic emitter.... Exactly what's the best way to find one of these?

Calling engine junkyards?
Ebay?

Even though Ebay sells many items, Im guessing this would still be very difficult to find , especially considering it's a smaller, specific part from a larger piece of antique machinery.

DS - They're nearly impossible to find.
There actually is no good way to find correct Derwent balance pipes.
There are too many variations in the Derwent engine itself that it is impossible to tell if the correct parts are inside without at least partial disassembly. No aircraft junkyard contacted has been willing to let anyone remove any part of an engine without buying it. This is why, to my knowledge, not a single correct balance pipe/emitter has been found in a junkyard. We know where there are scrap Derwent engines, but they're not worth the gamble (IIRC they run around $15,000).
Kurtyboy purchased a partial engine which ended up having the wrong versions in it.

There are only about a dozen correct emitters in the hands of fans and I believe all came from only one or two sources (mostly sold through eBay).

Really? have you checked its orbit recently? you'll know what to do...you are smart.

;)

Thanks for the tips Chris.
I was thinking of starting a new Obi Wan saber project but those prospects don't sound too good. Ill still keep an eye out on Ebay just in case though.

DS

You might want to start by looking for the rest of the parts first DS. That way at least some, if not all of the parts of your OBW ANH saber will be made of real parts.

Just remember to keep a really good chunk of change tucked away, unless you're really really well off already. Every piece of real OBW ANH part costs a pretty penny(with the exception of the clamp), with the most expensive part being the emitter.

Yes I know you were making a joke. My response was meant to be a joke too as it was trying to
make a reference to a line from the beginning of the movie 2010 when one character talks about
a spaceship (the Discovery) in orbit around Jupiter.

Yeah. B)

OK -- I don't mean to hijack this thread, and this baby really is not ready for prime time, but someone has to post pics. All parts are original: sink handle, gear, graflex clamp, calc bubbles, transisters, grenade (chen's original by the way) and emitter.

As first built by, close to mint -- something that has not been seen for a long time, a very long time:
