am i the only person in the world who has......

Great saber victory201. Wow so you're the guy who Chen sold his real grenade to? How did you get it so shiny? Acid bath? And that emitter is sure shiny considering it came out of a Derwent engine...

Okay, that beauty is going to be way to shiny for a lot of people, but for me, I like it. (Of course I love it for its components.) ;)

Mine (To be built from the most authentic replica parts, including a chen replica.) will look much like that one. As I have received each pristine part, I knew I wouldn't have the heart to weather them.

You might want to start by looking for the rest of the parts first DS. That way at least some, if not all of the parts of your OBW ANH saber will be made of real parts.

Just remember to keep a really good chunk of change tucked away, unless you're really really well off already. Every piece of real OBW ANH part costs a pretty penny(with the exception of the clamp), with the most expensive part being the emitter.

Thanks Saberfreak. I already have a couple of real grenades from former saber projects but still not happy with their accuracy. As you probably already know, even though you purchase the right MK grenade model doesn't mean you're getting the one with all the right details (As far as I know I've only seen a couple which come close to having the exact details of the original Obi Wan saber), so I gotta keep an eye out for that.
The Graflex clamp, I already have as well.
Im guessing the next two hardest parts the metal Armitage Shanks handwheel (metal version, not plastic) and the browning booster....And finally the hardest of all would probably be the Derwent tube.

I could be searching til Im old and grey.

DS - There is no metal version. The correct one is still chrome plated plastic.

[/b][/quote]Which I have, although not in pristine condition.

I made that mistake as well in the beginning thinking the original was chromed steel.

I don't know how accurate my grenade is, but nonetheless I'm glad to have a real one.

OK -- I don't mean to hijack this thread, and this baby really is not ready for prime time, but someone has to post pics. All parts are original: sink handle, gear, graflex clamp, calc bubbles, transisters, grenade (chen's original by the way) and emitter.

As first built by, close to mint -- something that has not been seen for a long time, a very long time:

that's an awesome saber :) is that really Chen's original grenade? I seem to remember it being darker....

Ok finally got my Obi assembled...it wasn't easy as the 3/8" threaded rod won't go through the square hole of the vintage handwheel, and I'm one who do not like to modify real vintage parts in any way.

Anyway here it is. Everything is real except the emitter and the transistors.

Hope the pics are not too big for everyone's liking. If they are let me know and I'll resize them.

Cool Stuff..

How did you attache the pomel?

I pressure fit the pomel to the booster.
If you wrap the booster with some tape, the pomel will fit on it pretty good. Mine actually didn't need tape but some of them are slightly loose.

The nut and threaded rod only go in the booster and don't touch the pomel.

I got a 1/4" screw welded to the end of the 3/8" rod, cut it to length, and screw on the pommel from the back.

Yeah I know, the booster fits real snug into the handwheel. Quite difficult to get it out once its pushed in.

Looks like I did things the hard way, should have done it your way :p

Thanks guys :$

Can anyone positively identify the emitter? I'm not sure if its a Romans or a Gavidoc, or is it one of yours Serafino?

Well I said it was nice, didn't I? :D

(one-piece, with a flange the grenade stem butts up against, right?)

Yup, that's the one. :)

Any tips on what to use to secure the threaded rod instead of the butt ugly hex nut? Right now its an eye sore if you look right down the front into the emitter...

T-nut. As short a one as you can get. You can cut them yourself but then you have to clean up the threads and that's a pain especially if you use stainless steel.

Thanks so much. I wish I'd been around the board when this kicked off. Why? I live in Derby, home of Rolls Royce. I have many friends who work for Rolls, I could have acquired all the info you needed super quick...sorry guys.... I can't believe the end of this quest was 5 minutes down the road from me. Crazy.
[/b]

So I'm wondering what's happened to our friend Pete?

All original parts.

OK the grenade is not symmetrical :angel , the transistors are as close anyone's found, and the washers are home-made out of stainless steel, but I'm happy with it. :D
