ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Slow progress and there some issues I’m trying to work through. One of which is the FH because of the holes it won’t print smoothly. Even slowing it right down lines still appear. I experimented with light sanding and adding primer which matches the PLA gray pretty seemless which works but rather it be simply smooth to begin with.

Also this Hero print is looking excellent! Seeing it built with all the little details like Carson's lump just make it look RIGHT.

Thanks Vanitas. In all honesty if one wants the perfect representation of their own design, MJF is definitely the way to go. These FDM prints are really nice but it’s hard to get them perfectly clean with supports. There is scaring in certain places but that’s inevitable I guess. It’s still a bit of a pill to swallow though if ur an aspiring perfectionist.

So I’ve pretty much finished the first draft of this FDM ANH Hero blaster. It’s not finished by no means but it’s certainly coming along. One thing that bothers me is when things are not printed on an angle you can see how the filament is layed down. I try printing everything on an angle as much as possible to reduce this but needed supports makes this very difficult for parts that require cosmetic perfection. Like for example the hammer and mystery disk. I tried printing each on an angle but I don’t like how they came out. I know this is back side of the disk but still..

I’ve been curious how these parts would take to painting so I primed each and painted them really quickly. To my pleasant surprise they came out great. The last pic you can see the hammer with and unpainted one for comparison..

Now I need to add some threading and modify some parts to help improve the prints themselves but so far so good. Got the whole OT Hero’s lining up..

Here something I noticed a while ago when designing this blaster. Trying to duplicate the famous last pic of this prop before it was long ago lost to history I noticed that I needed to lower the flash hider on the bull barrel in order to accomplish this 1:1 overlay. I don’t think it’s been discussed before so I’m curious how others see it?

It’s only really seems to be in this pic but still. Now a lot of it probably has to do with where I have it centered on my rotating BB but it’s still very interesting.

So of course I designed up two BB’s to see it in real life. It’s the same blaster just subbing in the different BB’s for comparison. One lower than the other. The blaster with the hammer pulled back is what you see on most peoples builds. The hammer upright is with the FH lowered on the BB just a bit for observation…

Thanks! I should probably quit buying every one that crosses my paths, but for the price I just couldn't help myself.

One thing I did notice pretty quickly is that there's a lot of old dirt in some odd crevices on this one, and the 9s in the grip being coloured isn't something I've seen before on stock MGCs. That and the fact that it came with an actual C96 case makes me wonder if it might have been used as a prop in some kind of production or movie?

Got those grips made up as well as some other details. They came out pretty good. The “9761” though is pretty close to being impossible to get right. I’ve tried almost every way as well..

I totally forgot I bought a .2mm nozzle when I originally purchased this printer for details like the “9761” and scope dial numbers. While I’m printing the scope dial right now I’m happy to say the .2mm definitely is impressive.

On the left is the original .4mm print with the details slightly modified and enlarged trying to get them to show up. Didnt really do it justice. But next two are with the .2mm nozzle. Each with original font from my original design. The middle one the numbers are enlarged just a little bit and spaced out. But the one on the far right is simply unmodified from the original design. This is FDM printed so some details are definitely lost but damn that’s impressive! It looks even cleaner and better in person to be honest..
