Anyone else not liking the forum changes? (answered)

Re: Anyone else not liking the forum changes?

I'm also not sure whether the Off Topic Forum belongs in the sub-category you have it in now either... that is, now that you've renamed it.

You are right. ;)

... and micdavis, if you are reading this... no, we aren't doing away with the OT... sorry.

Aegis, PMing you about the jumplinks.

Re: Anyone else not liking the forum changes?

Question: Sometimes when I quote someone or answer, the new paragraphs are insert with an asterix - for example:

bla bla...
*
bla bla...

is that a bug?

I have not seen this myself. Is this a random event or can you make it happen repeatedly? I have not heard of it, but if you can demonstrate it or show me how to make it happen, we will definitely look into it because that sounds like a glitch in the system.

This little icon thing is annoying me. I don't know why. I like the black space beside the tread titles better. It made finding threads with new posts easier since the
firstnew.gif
was more noticable

Good call. Done.

I could also do without seeing the 15 SW smilies that no one uses on the smilie list since it deforms the page a little bit.

Again, good call. Done.... although the smilies may need a bit more tweaking.

Re: Anyone else not liking the forum changes?

I don't dig the GIANT new RPF logo up top on my theme, which I chose because it was the least obvious/obtrusive looking one to use here at work..

Cut the size of the logo back to the same height as the previous logo (68 pixels). It doesn't render quite as cleanly, but hopefully it is no more obtrusive than the previous logo.

Re: Anyone else not liking the forum changes?

Alright.... think that about covers it. We are still working on a lot of little things so please be patient and don't hesitate to point out if something isn't working or feel free to PM an member of the staff if you have some ideas on how we might improve things!

Re: Anyone else not liking the forum changes?

Ok so the changes aren't all bad, but why did you take away the links at the bottom of the pages??? When I get done reading a long series of posts in a topic the bottom linkage was a very effective piece for taking me back to the top of the list!

Why was it removed?

Please bring back the drop down box. It was so much more convenient for navigating the site.

Re: Anyone else not liking the forum changes?

seeing alot of font color code not working now...pretty annoying.
Ditto. Last night, I made a post and used colored text to highlight certain words. Today I looked at the thread in question, and saw the color tags wrapped around the words, and was like
wtf.gif

Good to know it's already on the list. :)

Just to clarify, the reason the color coding has been taken out has to do with themes and the inability to see certain colored text under certain themes. We will work on getting the old code tag wrappers out.

Thank you for this, I hate going to a thread and all the text is white or yellow on a white background. There are a few people who are repeat offenders on this.

Regarding the white text, I have noticed that mostly it's the result of a member doing a copy/paste from another source and not realizing that the color tags have come along for the ride... mostly.

What program do you use to scale it? I know Paint Shop Pro is not so good at scaling graphics without ruining the smoothness of them, whereas PhotoShop retains the curviness and high res look.

Re: Anyone else not liking the forum changes?

TMG,

The image was reduced in PS. Maybe I am just being too picky but to me, the outer edges of the curves just look a bit odd which is weird because the original that dueledge sent is huge and very nicely rendered.

Re: Anyone else not liking the forum changes?

I personally see no issues with this current version. The larger one was just bloated and obstructive.

Re: Anyone else not liking the forum changes?

You know what I'm not liking?

The "enhanced" "profanity" filter.

D-A-M-M-I-T is blocked. A-S-S is blocked. F-A-R-T is blocked.

What the H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks is this?! I mean, I can understand Carlin's Heavy Seven being blocked. I can understand some sexual content being blocked. But now we're blocking flatulence and damnation?

Seems a bit extreme to me. I understand the "We don't want to offend anyone" thing, but at a certain point, people gotta grow a thicker skin.

Let me see, if this post is making asterix'. I just it only two or three times, if I recall.
