The one in that playset is the roll-up map. Is there a full hi-res pic of the more detailed, unweathered, table spinning map?

With my rudimentary knowledge of Photoshop, I merged the two images posted by Ramsey together like so:

charts-big.jpg

But as you can see, the middle part of the chart is very sharp whereas the surrounding areas are pixelated. Can any photoshop expert clean up this pic to make it look like one continuous pic instead of a cut and paste job? I can email you the hi-res doc (1280x1524) if you can help. My plan is to print this out to A1 size and then glueing that to a bamboo mat of the same size and weathering it.

Here are a couple of other images I found...they're close-ups of the images on the chart, one of Jack and Elizabeth, and one of the "hidden Mickey"....they give you a good idea of the detail in which the chart was drawn/painted.

The Art of POTC has a real good image of the map, but it spans part of 2 pages so the binding cuts through a portion of the map.

Has anyone come up with a decent estimate on the size of the roll-out map? I bought a large bamboo mat last night and I'm ready to officially begin working on this one, but not sure of the size.

Another couple of questions for anyone who might know....

First, would you say that the map itself, the one attached to the bamboo mat, is printed on parchment paper, or perhaps papyus paper? (I realize it's Asian and not Egypitan, but still....)

And second...does anyone remember how the map is "closed" when it's rolled up? I mean, is it tied? If so, is there a tie at both ends or just in the middle? Is it strapped, or is there something of a "hook and loop" system holding it into the rolled position? I can't find any good screenshot online, and I didn't pay close enough attention to that detail when I saw the movie...I hope I don't have to wait for the DVD to figure this out, as I'm making good progress on my replica, so far.

Ramsey, here's a view of the back of the map:

As you can see, the rope to tie it is on the center right of the map.

There's also a nice pic of Sao Feng's carrying the rolled map in the Ultimate Visual Guide for size reference.

As for the type of paper used, I would suggest using parchment paper. Papyrus is too rough and wouldn't "meld" with the bamboo well enough if you wanna make it look like it was printed on the mat itself.

Beautiful Thanks alot! I kind of figured as much, but wanted to be sure.

By the way, where did you find that image? I've been all over the internet trying to find screenshots that might show the map, flattened or rolled up.
