Caprica On SyFy: 1/29

Re: Caprica On SyFy: 1/22

As previously stated, The Plan is a two hour movie of the BSG series told from the Cylon POV.

And this first episode of a series is always called PILOT. It's the pilot episode.

I know that, guys... I was just trying to get Silver to recognize his mistake without outright saying he was wrong... :)

Again - about "The Plan" - is it ORIGINAL and WORTH watching, i.e., will I divine new depths and insights into the Cylons' Grand Plan and their inner-cyber-psyche, or is it just a retread of spliced scenes from the series?

Thanks!

I liked it, personally, but then again, I'm a HUGE Battlestar fan.

If you're looking to have all your questions left from the show answered, then it's going to be a disappointment. That's not what the movie sets out to do at all. There are a lot of scenes that are reshoots or different angles of ones from the first two seasons, but, to me, that just gives the actual series a new level of depth when I go back and rewatch it.

It, The Plan, focuses heavily on Cavil and on Simon (the black doctor Cylon) and does expand on those characters and the central theme of BSG.

***** ******, Moore. Way to go and ruin what little shred of dignity the show had left after that "God did it" fiasco of an ending. Really, now we learn that when it comes down to it, the entire Caprican Cylon race is really just one thing.

A pissed off 16 year old girl mad at her dad.

Sad.

Re: Caprica On SyFy: 1/22

For those who are unaware: The "Pilot" broadcasted tonight is actually even more enhanced than the DVD version. I mean "enhanced" as they added more CG work to scenes that did not have them in the scenes in the DVD (such as some cityscape and street details).

Hey, Kerr - way to go for spoiling it for those of us who haven't seen the Caprica pilot yet. :thumbsdown :unsure

Really? You think that's a spoiler? Did you miss the commercials they've been playing 60 times a day for the last 6 months that says 'our daughters are dead' 'what if they could come back' Really? Really? For ****s sake.

I guess I don't watch as much TV or as many commercials as you because I DVR everything (the attention my wife & child demand might also have a little something to do with that...) Besides, 99% of what's on Syfi is crap, so I seldom click the channel - in fact, I learned about the new series here. :lol

Nice language, by the way - guess tenure here doesn't guarantee increased civility... Cheers! :rolleyes

Re: Caprica On SyFy: 1/22

Potential spoilers if you haven't seen the Caprica movie/pilot/thing!

I bought Caprica on DVD last year and it was well worth it. Surely last night's showing was an edited version, right? Did they leave in the
stuff like the group sex rooms with all the nudity?

I'm really not sure why there is so much question about whether or not they were going to air the movie/pilot or start the series. Look at SyFy's (new branding is frakking retarded) history with BSG. BSG:Razor was sold first then aired later. BSG:The Plan...the same.

As I said earlier I thoroughly enjoyed the Caprica movie/pilot and look forward to the rest of the series. I also enjoyed a lot of aspects of The Plan, but with so much of it being hashed footage of old stories shot from different angles..I wouldn't say it was as good as Razor or Caprica. It did offer some new insight into the characters, and it gave us plenty of gratuitous shots of Helfer in various sexy outfits and a really nice shot of Ellen Tigh on a barstool bent over the bar. :love I'm a male. Appeal to my baser instincts. Good job.

Think I'll pass. Ron Moore got to burn me once. He won't get to do it again. I mean, I'm assuming that the whole thing is supposed to have a central plot, not simply be "about the characters" wandering aimlessly, and frankly, I just don't trust Ron Moore to write and stick to a good plot.

Wow. Who went and piddled in your fruit loops this morning, Kerr? You don't like BSG. We get it. Why are you wasting your time being a killjoy? Just move along and find something you like better. Sheesh. :rolleyes

Well, there was some differences in between the enhanced version and the DVD. They human brain went from 300 megabytes to 100 terrabytes.
The cityscapes were nicer.

Can't stand people complaining about spoilers when they go into a thread clearly about the show/movie or whatever they don't want to be spoiled about especially when it's been out for at least 6 months in one form or another. It's like they need a spoiler tag on life itself.

Maybe so... but would it hurt you to be civil about it? :)

Re: Caprica On SyFy: 1/22

There's a word for those whose dislike of something compels them to try and spoil it for everyone else. Several words actually, but you can't type any of them here.

Caprica is a problematic show, but I'll hang in there for a few episodes to see if the thing gels. It's already interesting from a purely thematic standpoint, but it remains to be seen how much entertainment value there is to be had in a series about a dysfunctional dynasty living in the waning days of a doomed civilization. As dour as BS:G could get, there was implicit in the premise the promise that the colonial refugees would one day find a safe haven. From what I can tell, Caprica offers no such hope, and without that I'm not sure how sustainable the premise will prove. Especially given the relative scarcity of cool looking spaceships.

But, you know, I enjoy the intellectual curiosity Moore brings to the party, and I have no problem with the sort of moral and narrative ambiguity that pisses off those weened on pat explanations and easy resolutions. BS:G is one of the finest sci-fi series ever produced IMO (arguably the finest), and although it will be almost impossible to top, I'm rooting for Caprica to give it a fair shot.

FYI, Kerr has no regard for the Spoiler Rule here on the RPF. It's happened before so you might want to put him on ignore. He will also get pissy and argue with you if you call him out.

Actually, I don't go out of my way to post spoilers that someone's going to see if they try to not see it by avoiding threads about the very thing they don't want to be spoiled about.

However, if someone goes into a thread that has the TITLE of something that they don't want to be spoiled about, they're going to be spoiled, if not by me someone else. It's the kind of thing that is bound to happen when you seek out information about something you dont' want to be spoiled about. Pretending to not want to be spoiled and reading threads about the very subject you don't want to be spoiled about is an oxymoron. Really. Is that hard to understand?
