Captain America: Brave New World

What do think the odds are that Bucky takes over as Captain America at some point in the MCU (sooner than later)? Sebastian Stan has been getting a lot of critical success/awards. If CA:BNW doesn't do huge numbers, and maybe if Thunderbolts does better, I think it's a real possibility. Bucky took over as Cap in the comics, so no one could say it wasn't part of the comics. I'm sure there'd be backlash for "dumping" the "Black Cap," but Disney/Marvel is still trying to make big money on these films.

Interesting thought. But looks like it's going to make a lot of money...

I assumed it would, mainly because Marvel hasn't had a lot of "big name" films come out recently. The name "Captain America" still carries a lot of weight. But we've seen how actors winning awards affects their roles. If Sebatian Stan wins an Oscar, it could change Disney/Marvel's plans.

Wishful thinking. Chockful of misinformation there (the Imdb article). This movie did not cost 180 million dollars.
After 4 major reshoots, the bill is north of 400 million dollars plus marketing. This Captain Americaless movie will need
to make a minimum of a Billion dollars to break even. With the lackluster performance of all other
Marvel movies and the less than stellar response at screenings, it is not very likely. Miracles do happen.

This.

I don't wish ill on Disney/Marvel films, but without a $1 billion plus worldwide gross (of which Disney/Marvel receives ~50% from theaters), this will lose massive $$$ for the studio.

Disney knows this is coming. Nobody funds such a disastrous production without having hard thoughts about the outcome.

And frankly, Disney should be used to this by now. Spending 9 figures on reshoots is their signature move these days.

I swear, without Inside Out 2, Deadpool 3 and the money from the U.S. theme parks to bail them out, Disney Co. would be in dire straights.

It was OK. Not sure OK enough for the billion$ it needs for profit. Way more of a Harrison Ford project than I expected . I really do love Anthony Mackie in the MCU. I feel like it wanted to be winter soldier sooo bad but just couldn’t get there.

I realize it's a movie, and a superhero / comic book adaptation at that.

But... how does Sam Wilson do what he does, without the super soldier serum?

With Tony Stark, you could suspend disbelief with his acrobatic flight maneuvers and ridiculous strength because his suit totally encased him, provided the extra strength, inhanced reaction and manueverability, and had some form of inertial dampening system.

But Sam... is a regular guy with (paratrooper military training) with a flight pack and the Shield. He shouldn't be able to do - or tolerate - the maneuvers and acrobatics he performs.

Kevlar weave plain cloths when fighting regulars
Wacanda tech when fighting red hulk.
Not sure on the physics of the maneuvers affecting him. It just happens.

Why he is cap without the serum is a plot point and directly addressed.

Didn't work in the comics where things have a higher degree of plausibility, leading to its cancelation after a short run.
Not sure why they thought it would work in a movie. Oh ya it didn't that's why they had to reshoot it.
Hulk (Red or otherwise) would turn Falcon (cause that is what he is) to jelly with one punch, vibranium, adamantium or not.
When your concept, no matter how far fetched is flawed, everything else falls apart.

The kevlar weave didnt really help.
He still bled.

The physics?!? I wouldnt go there. Think of Iron Man 3 when Tony crashes in the snowy forest, the armor might survive, but the banging around would kill him. Concussive forces, pulling G's, all over the place.

I liked that he didnt take the serum, but then I'm thinking, "how readily available is the serum now?!?!?"

Is this Captain America? The serum doesn't *make* Captain America, but it is deffinitely a *part* of Captain America.

The cgi of helmets just magically disappearing looks like they aren't even trying to make it look "realistic."

Not the best writing.

I liked the use of the shield.

Adamantium is official and "versatile."

Wait...WHAT? Versatile?!?! I hope that isnt forshadowing that it is going to become the latest plot armor.

The theatre was not 10% capacity. It had more people for the opening of DogMan.

I did not hate the movie, it *did* advance the MCU a bit, but it was like an okay meal, where the sides were the best part.

They don't care. The comics continue to do all the things that have already failed because Marvel (and/or its writers) have an agenda and they're never going to give it up. They don't even hire people that can write comics anymore, or that have any demonstrable record of past success.

Just got back from an IMAX screening and really enjoyed the film.

Without spoilers, it ties into other parts of the MCU, the friendship between Joaquin and Sam is a nice touch and the red Hulk VFX are as good as the ones for Banner's Hulk.

A solid 8/10.

As a bonus they were giving away a free luggage tag, a slightly random freebie but I'll take it.

JPH I wasn't trying to get into the physics, i just thought blewis17 was asking if it was addressed.

Yep, haven't seen it yet but I know the story summary. Was wondering how an "Average" human without the super serum could tolerate that level of action and stress, even with the advanced tech.

Just more believable for me to have an "average guy" Tony Stark do all these amazing things as Iron Man fully because he is fully encased in a suit, even though he would be "goo" inside it with all of the action in the Marvel films.

I'll post an actual spoiler review later, but for now, I just wanted to highlight that they obviously came up with the title without looking at the script, then added a meaningless, confounding line of dialog that says "we've entered a brave new world..." to try to get the audience to think the title actually meant something. It really doesn't.

Here's some suggestion for a title off the top of my head:

Captain America: New Blood
Captain America: Red, Black & Blue
(okay, that's a bit too jokey, but still more descriptive).
