COMPLETED -- Converting the FX toy X-Wing

All right boys and girls... (Tapping my foot rapidly and looking down my nose)

To quote an X-WING PILOT: "Stay on target...."

:p

Not much progress today. Keep in mind I'm working on a few other things too...

Did more work on my soon-to-be-remastered Maxi-Brute nose cone. In my humble opinion (and based on what I've seen and my personal interpretations of the X-Wing, it should be the most accurate nose cone out there (unless someone else has quietly done what I'm doing)...

But its sort of a side track because I probably won't use it on the FX conversion -- a tad too big...

Whoops, right about the Phantom...I was thinking about the fact that the model has only one removable engine with the parts needed for X-Wing engines (meaning one needs four kits without casting.).

But correct, there are two turkey feathers per kit (and plane. ;) ).

Rob,

Have you kept a log of how much time you've put into this as of yet?. LOL. Makes ya wonder if, when all done, it is worth doing in time and money. This will be very interesting to know the number breakdown. However, if this is for the sheer kewlness of it.... more power to the project and....SWEEEEEEET.

As I stated before now,..I am very much following this thread. :p This is just as good as viewing someone building from scratch. Probably harder actually. :D

Kurt, about a year or two back I started a log of the projects I do, including all build details (paints, techniques, etc.), start date and finish date; but not the actual hours. Don't want to frighten myself out of the hobby.

Glad you're enjoying the thread. ;)

Finished out sanding the forward rings on the cannons today (thae rings that wrap the heat sinks), but will need to prime and re-fill next. Also had an epiphany as to how to get the new brass barrels all nice and straight, but more on that when I get to it.

And made more progress on my Maxi cone (NOT PAD YOU SICKOS. :booty ) tonight... I'm pretty excited about this little sub-project. It should be really cool if all goes as planned.

Ok -- so it was.

Back on target, pics I'd never seen before -- one extricated cockpit and pilot.

Once the levers that move the head were cut (see white stub), only two silver screws held it in. Came out like a dream, but the torso-only figure is glued in...

AND WHY ARE THOSE GLOVES WHITE..?

I think the gloves are white as he wore them in ESB for the speeder battle i believe, then climbed into a T65 at the end, the gallant blighter . I think .

But he's not wearing his cold weather Greedo jacket.

I know we've covered this, but man is that figure huge. ;)

Yup... Again -- you're right. :)

I think that's the cool thing about yanking it out like this; it really demonstrates how large the body is compared to the head.

Tonight, I'll try to separate the torso from the tub. I'm very curious to see how my 1:24 race car driver fits into this tub...

Here are shots of a fully extricated piolt. The red figure is 1:24 scale...

And some shots of my maxi-brute nose cone "sub-project"...

Compare the last pic to that classic shot of Red 2 we've seen so many times over the past 25-30 years...

I've posted this in another thread or two (just trying to get exposure as different folks may key on different threads). So I apologize if you've seen it already...

I have a Maxi-Brute kit, and am currently tweaking the nose cone for my own purposes.

Has anyone else who owns this truly analyzed this MB nose cone? And does anyone know the TRUE lineage of the MB fuselage. The box states its the same size as the studio models, but has it ever been confirmed if it was taken directly from a studio model?

Reason I ask is this:
On my MB nose cone, if you look at the thing dead straight on, the two outer-most, widest points are not in line with each other; one is higher than the other.

In other words, looking straight on the thing, starting from the bottom it angles out, then back in, right? Well, the points where it angles back in (the widest points) are not in line with each other, horizontally. I'l try to get a pic.

So...

--Was this how the (or an) original was?
--Is this merely a production flaw in the MB?
--Is this merely a flaw in MY MB?

Hmmmmmm.....

any updates?? :)

Not in the past week or two... But thanks for asking.

That's the "good and bad" on this thread. It will require some patience for those "staying tuned", but will last a good long while. ;)

Right now I have a commissioned project I MUST finish, plus an FM Falcon joint project. I need to focus and knock these out first...

Just wondering if there was any progress or has the project status been changed to "dust collector"

(hey, we all have them...)

Hey all...

No this project will not fade into an eternal dust collector. I've recently been focused on completing a commisioned Moonraker shuttle, which I am happy to say has been shipped off.

I have one other personal project (chronicled in the General Modelng Forum) that sits a notch higher on the priorities list, but that too will be done fairly soon.

Thanks for the interest and patience.

Great to see this one hasnt gone the way of the dusty shelf lol. Then again i have to say the project you have in gen modeling is one of major interest :)
How about a sheet brass or alloy in the wings? I would have thought that would be plenty reinforcement to stop any possible droop.
