Contact Lenses - places to purchase and ratings

I both faxed, called, and emailed 9mmsfx about purchasing a pair of their contacts and having a pair custom made and they never replied back. :unsure

Obviously they didn't want my money.

First off, thx for starting this thread. :thumbsup

FWIW, sent an email to 9mmsfx around the holidays asking some specific
custom work questions. Took a week, but received an email from Kevin w/
the info I needed.

Haven't ordered a pair yet, as the project's in limbo at the moment, but odds
are will likely be going through them soon enough. Chief reason? Had been
shopping around for quite a while, and was not finding the right subtlety and
look for this particular project. Sometimes the more surreal and/or cheesy
lookin' ones are perfect for the part - and admittedly, there's no shortage of
those in the FX lens world - but weren't cutting it for this case.

Anyway, I'll be sure to post results once we're good to go.

What an awesome thread. I had only ever heard of 9mm and looked a while back and they were way too expensive for Halloween. If I do a serious costume that needs them though, this will be a great list of places to check. Good info too as I don't normally wear contacts!
Can more people post pics of them with their lenses please? That one pic is so dark, you can't see if the fellow even has eyes! The girl's look cool though.

Congrats on your first post LittleBit!

It's the same design contact in 4 costumes.
Like I said the Bigfoot has got the same cheap brand.
It doesn't take an expensive contact to set off a costume.

Here's another trick. The Japanese Kabuki and Indian Ramlila would put a Poppy or Sesame seed in their lower eyelid an hour before stage time and it turns the whites of your eyes really, really red. That of course is up to you, I've done it when I was younger, and it sucks, but it looks great.
Laffo.

Heh, gotta recant a bit. For the record ....

Emailed an order to 9mmsfx a month ago, and never received an
acknowledgement or reply. Normally I would've just followed up with a
phone call / fax, but for project reasons I won't go into, it just suddenly
became a "well, whatever happens, happens."

Anyway, I just cancelled the order, but do plan on trying them again.
Next time, I'll use the phone, and recommend others do the same.

UPDATE: Received a near-immediate email reply this time, so it's very
possible 9mm just has crazy email. Anyway, again, I suggest if you want
to order, use the phone to be safe. They do require payment in advance, BTW.

I've used the regular costume contacts every Halloween for the last few years. It's really a simple process, there are many sellers out there and they just need your prescription. You can get most of them with a prescription (if you wear glasses) or just "plano" (no rX) if you don't. Prices are pretty reasonable.

This year I turned things up a notch and ordered from 9mm. I had the best luck with calling and talking to them in person. All their contacts are custom made by hand. I opted this year for the full eye "sclera" contact lenses. You need to get special measurements from your doctor and give them to 9mm. The trick is finding a doctor that will give you these measurements, or even know how to do it.

I went to my local Walmart because it's cheap and easy. The doctor there was cool and willing to work with me and 9mm to make it happen. He even spoke to them on the phone. Once I received the lenses he wanted to see them in my eyes to make sure the fit was OK. I thought this was a great idea since your eyes are not something to mess with! Overall a pretty easy experience.

The Zombie pic is with the full eye sclera lens. The others are the normal costume lenses.

HTH,

I work with a haunted house company and we have used exoticlenses.com for years also. I would recommend them anytime.
