Darth Vader's Rogue One lightsaber

Here is my theory: the prop makers grabbed a roman props mpp replica, but they had to machine a new tube (most likely from aluminum, without letters) , for some reason (got damaged, hard to install with electronics, etc.), so they slapped the replica parts on the tube, weathered it, added resin grips, screws, wires, cut the wide d-ring to a smaller size, painted the thumbscrew in a gold color, removed the lever and added a socket head screw, and made the shroud look like the post production esb mpp. I'm still not sure about how they weathered the shroud. Rust paint? Copper plating? What are your toughts?

It's always mindful to be aware of the difference between a promotional image (like this one, also the one in the Lightsaber guidebook), and what was actually used on screen, as those two can be very different.

3251bimmer likely has some thoughts on this.

Thank you, I was aware, but this is probably the closest we will ever get to seeing the actual prop. I also kind of fell in love with this design ever since I got that visional dictionary in 2016

Several reasons but the easiest tell is that it’s a small B port and there is not replica body made with a small B port.
As I mentioned previously, the tube is probably custom machined by the propmakers, so they probably just drilled out a smaller hole. What are the other reasons tho?

Here is the MPP purchased by production. I have seen other photos that I believe are of this flash converted. The clocking of the screws, the clamp in this same position, the grip covering the RAF engraving, and I believe a matching nick in the finish. The photo from the first post is not the same lightsaber as the one I saw converted. The R1 saber does appear to be made by production and not be the real MPP.

The 90 degree angle cut on the shroud where the “brass” thumb screw is much sharper. No stamped letters. Hex head bolt through the clamp, no visible hole/divot in the bulb release silver button, and bulb release screws clocked differently. And I haven’t seen an image of the prop to confirm it, but the rogue one saber released by Hasbro had a black lever.

Oh, can we see the photos, or are they private? Also, the hasbro doesn't have a lever. I think the disney one has a lever... but it also has stamping...
