Question about ESB MPP Shroud

From what I hear, MPP's are fragile, cheap things (Heiland knock-offs, essentially) so putting this thing on a lathe probably wouldn't do any favors. If anything, it my just be wear from over the years or a scrub pad was taken to it to help bring the chrome reflection down. But even then that seems a bit much for an early Star Wars prop. They did not care a lick about these things then.

Yeah, that specific section really looks weird on that picture. But if you look at the other available pictures it's just random scratches all over. Does not look at all like it was turned on a lathe.
Compare to the rach saber :

If I understand the mythos…those streaks are from the hilt being rubbed in “Woodoo Hide” to distract Darth Sidious from the otherwise poor condition of the hilt.

In-universe, those striations are normal as the hilt is made from a metal called Trurungian Space-Steel, and what happens when the blade catches another or reflects blaster bolts, is that it channels the residual electrons dispersed by either blade or bolt contact, and it channels it up through Vader's vibro-electrum laced gloves and into his robotics (through sensors in his prosthetic hands) to power the battery that's used to make the annoying beeping in his helmet that Palpatine had the incredible foresight to add to have Vader annoyed and angry all the time, further maximizing his dark side powers.

…the generic, off-brand batteries which Vader uses, instead of the superior Energizer brand?

Love it.

lol
yes, looking at it again today... it does look like a scrubby pad was taken to the chrome to maybe buff off some crap or something for the photo.
